We stopped over at this hotel whilst on a tour of Iceland. The outward appearance gives the impression of a modern hotel. However the inside looks like it was built in the 50/60's. nice reception area. The bedroom had dark brown furniture with lot of paint cracking and staining. The floor was wooden. Two lamps not working. There is tea making, a safe and fridge in bedroom. The bathroom is nicely furnished and well supplied. All very clean and tidy. There is free wifi throughout the hotel. The downstairs restaurant was excellent with great food.

Outside the hotel is a modern box. Inside are restaurants which are punching well above their weight plus very friendly and helpful staff who will go out of their way to assist.

The gourmet restaurant on the top floor claims to be the best in Iceland and if price is anything to go by it probably is. A meal for two can easily cost £150 upwards. The alternative restaurant downstairs, largely self service, is more realistic with two levels of menu. Check which one you are going for before indulging. Icelandic treats include ice cream with wine gums.

Breakfast is served in a ground floor restaurant and this offers a wide choice of hot and cold food.

Rooms are large, comfortable and in our case reasonably well decorated. An office/shop off the foyer looks after travel and trip arrangements which in Iceland seem to be slightly chaotic with the bus company studying any bits of paper you put in front of them to decide whether you have booked in advance or not!

The domestic airport nearby is not a problem with only the occasional flight going in and out. The town centre is a very pleasant ten minute walk away down a leafy suburban street. Overall, a modern box with some real quality on the inside.

Room Tip: Superb view across city from the eastern side. View of distant sea on west.

We arrived very early on an overnight flight from JFK for a major whirlwind stay in Iceland! Needless to say, there were no rooms available at 8:30 am. Staphana, (not sure of the spelling) at the front desk, could not have been more accommodating and helpful. We were assigned the first room available, which I found to be large (we had reserved Business class accommodations, which this was) and very comfortable (loved the single red rose). I found it very comparable to many of the European hotels in which we've stayed and not quite as worn and dated as some of the reviewers had . I had arranged some tours before leaving the US--1 for the Golden Triangle Tour and 2 for the whale watching express tour. She checked with the tour companies ( in Icelandic, thank your very much) to confirm our reservations, including checking on the express whale watching tour that had been changed from our original reservation (the seas were very rough) and arranged a refund. Breakfast and lunch were a bit unusual for my Southern palate, but since we were there for only one night, I can't comment on the quality of the food.

Just returned from a five night stay at this hotel. Yes the hotel is dated. And yes the furniture is old and could use to be updated. Putting that aside, the rooms are large, comfortable and clean. The hotel staff is kind, accommodating and helpful.

We arrived very early and our rooms were not ready. We went up to the breakfast buffet and enjoyed a very good breakfast with many choices and good food. As soon as possible, we were assigned the first rooms available which was wonderful because we were exhausted. We were lucky enough to be assigned to a much larger room than we had booked because the staff knew how tired we were. The room was spotless and the bed was very comfortable.

It's a ten minute walk into town which we did not find to be bothersome as we did not spend all our time in Reykjavik. The benefit of being this far out of the city is that we did not have to pay for parking as many hotels do in the city.

We ate at the top floor restaurant which was excellent with a great view of the city and beyond.

I would rate this hotel 3 stars as far as the physical plant but five stars to a wonderful staff.

This hotel is about 15 min walk out of Reykjavik center, near the national history museum, so not terribly convenient. More to the point, it looks like it was built around 1975 and is now looking both worn and out of style. The rooms are not very large, with a tiny shower, yet cost a great deal. Breakfast is in my view poor, with low quality cold cuts and massively overcooked eggs. Anyway, I would not recommend and would not go back myself.

We were very disappointed with the room decor for a 4 star hotel. Our room was tired and jaded. The furniture was knocked, scratched and dated. It felt more like a 2 star room. However the hotel was easy to find and a short 10 minute walk from the centre of Reykjavik. The breakfast which I thought was included turned out to be an extra. However, this was probably the best breakfast during our 10 day tour around Iceland. Salmon, herring, cold meats and cheeses, salads, pastries, skyr, fruits, waffles and cooked breakfast was well laid out and continuously renewed.
