Description: Glo is always on the way. Located at three locations in the capital area, one inside Listhusid in Laugardalur valley in Reykjavik, one on Laugavegur 20, downtown Reykjavik and the third in Hafnafjörður at Strandgata 34. Glo is Iceland's hottest new organic restaurant. The menu consists of vegetarian- and raw food courses, meat dishes, soups and salads. The courses are somewhat modest as they are simple, filling and not flooded with too much spice or ingredients. The head chef at Glo is Solveig Eiriksdottir, a pioneer in the field of healthy cooking in Iceland. Healthy food and haute cuisine started as a hobby for her, as she had a career in textile design before she got into the restaurant business. She founded the vegetarian restaurant Graenn Kostur in 1994, and ran it for ten years. She also founded Himneskt, a best-selling organic food label, along with Elias Gudmundsson. Last year, Solveig and Elias took over management at Glo.Glo is Iceland's first raw food restaurant. Raw food is about consuming unprocessed vegetables, fruits, nuts, almonds and seeds, heated under 47°C. This preperation method preserves the enzymes in the ingredients, so your body gets an extra large portion of excellent nutrition. You can go to Glo and get healthy food to take away or eat at the restaurant. The menu is put together of raw food dishes, warm vegetarian dishes, meat dishes, soups and salads. Glo always uses organic vegetables and ingredients without additives and preservatives in every dish. The food is surprisingly inexpensive, given how costly it can be to eat organic. For example you can get soup, bread and hummus for 1090ISK, meat dish of the day for 1890 and deserts for 790. The best part about those deserts is that you can fully enjoy them without feeling guilty. Treat yourself to a wholesome and soothing meal at Glo, your body will thank you afterwards.Gló has bin voted the "Best vegetarian" 2011, 2012 & 2013

“Interesting and good value”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

This little restaurant is quite well hidden, but it is actually almost opposite the Hilton Nordica hotel. We visited on Friday evening, arriving at about 8:30 PM, and it was very quiet with only 2 other tables occupied, and nobody else came in after us.
You have to go to the counter to order, but the staff was very helpful explaining the menu and the different salads. With each of the main courses you can choose 3 out of about 10 different salads. The restaurant is obviously vegan/vegetarian friendly but it does serve meat. In fact we both chose chicken breasts and thoroughly enjoyed them.

“Fresh Salads - Tasty and Great Value”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Glad we popped in to this busy eatery. One of us had salads only, the other a wrap plus salads and all were generous portions and tasty. We did have desert - an excellent chocolate cake and a carmel cake. The salads and wrap were a steal when compared to anyplace else as was the cake and coffee. Best fresh and informal meal (you point out what you want in line on arrival and pay on the spot) of the week.

“I want to like this place but...”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

...the cooked potato chunk side tastes like bland raw potatoes, the wraps are below average, the midget slices of desert cake, the limited menu, and the high prices forces me to only generously give it two circles simply because the dearth of vegan options in the city. I tried it all too. Avoid the wraps; their raw burger is average at best; and the best thing on the menu the day we were there was the thia dish.

I know there isn't much for competition in Reykjavik, but that's no excuse for the lack of selection and the blandness. You can make raw and vegan just as tasty as blood marinated dead food. We do tasty raw/vegan on the US West Coast all the time and you can do it here. Some of the dishes here are the kind that makes carnivores that are considering switching to a plant-based diet run back to corpse eating because their only experience they can reference is the rabbit food they had here.

“Delicious, delicious, delicious - and funky!”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

This is one of the best meals we had in Reykjavik. The menu changes daily and you choose from a main plus three side salads from a large selection. The meals are healthy and fresh with vegetarian and raw food options. We also had some really tasty healthy sweet treats at the end of our meal. Really affordable and great for kids with little ones as there are high chairs and a change table in one of the toilets.
