We booked this hotel as part of a package with Icelandair. The room was clean and comfortable and very convenient to the local airport if you are planning to fly north to Akureyri. The breakfast is excellent with a variety of choices. The indoor pool/spa is amazing but you are charged extra to use it. The hotel restaurant is very good as well. My biggest complaint is that there is nowhere else to eat nearby, and the center of town is about a 20 minute walk. The hotel did lend us a bus pass and it was a 5 minute ride on the #19 bus to get to the main shopping area. A cab ride to the same spot will cost about $20.

A very nice property just a few minutes from downtown Reykjavik. Owned by Icelandair, it is located right at the domestic airport, 40 minutes from the international airport. Even though we arrived very early in the a.m., our room was ready (but the daily breakfast was an extra charge for this first day!). The room was small, with no drawer space to unpack. The staff was friendly and accommodating. A free unlimited bus pass is available for the asking and the city bus stops just outside and takes you directly to the city center (a 7-8 minute ride) with easy transfers to other busses. The daily breakfast buffet was filled with cold cuts, cheese, cereals, yogourt, fruit, fish, eggs, sausage and a wonderful selection of fresh baked breads. We even tried an offering of cod liver oil! The tour desk in the gift shop was very helpful in booking tours. We loved the bedtime stories and hot chocolate offered a few times a week. The spa and pool are an extra charge; it is owned by another company. We didn't go, as we were busy every day touring and seeing the city.

Room Tip: There is an opportunity on arrival to upgrade your room to include more amenities including the spa...

While I find the hotel generally good and the staff very kind, I want to warn guests booking rooms through their webpage not to trust the information about what is included in various 'package deals' or offers, as this may not be in line with what you actually receive upon arrival. I booked a so-called Christmas offer, which, according to the info on the website, was supposed to include free WiFi, free entrance to the Spa and free breakfast. Upon arrival, my booking information only included the double room, plus free Wifi because that was currently free to all guests due to, apparently, a problems with the system. In the reception, they had no information about e.g. the free access to the Spa. When I went back to their webpage to find the offer, the Christmas offer is no longer there, but there are 6 other packages/offers.

This hotel looks like a luxurious hotel but lacks the details and quality to fit in the category. Service is ok, the lobby and the restaurant are nice but the rooms are very small and the quality of the essentials is questionable. Towels are worn out and small. No toiletries other than an all in one shower/ hand/ shampoo pump. Bathroom was really small. A slightly overweight person will not be comfortable in the shower. Breakfast area is not prepared for a large crowd. We stayed at the Icelandair hotel in Acureyri and it was much much better than this one. Maybe the expectations of a city hotel were higher but the overall experience at the other 3 hotels we stayed in(Ranga, Icelandair Acureyri, Sel Hotel in Myvatn) was better.

Enjoyed our stay! Hotel was clean, rooms are comfortable, shower is terrific. Breakfast buffet has a wide variety of options -- my kids all found things they liked. Also ate dinner in the restaurant one night and it was very good. Bus stop right across the street, and the free bus passes provided at the front desk were an added bonus! Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Even though it is further out of center city than some other places, we would stay here again. The pool does have limited hours (11:30am - 1pm) for those age 12 and under, and that was one thing we were not aware of before we tried to use the pool outside of those hours. Being next to the airport was a non-event -- no noise that we noticed at all. Can arrange many different day tours/northern lights tours at the tour desk in the hotel.

Small but very comfortable rooms. Very clean and quiet. Did not hear planes from the local airport nearby. Very helpful, pleasant staff that got us into our rooms even though we arrived in the early morning. My complaints were that the hi fi seldom worked in my room, though it did in the lobby and it was the last drop off returning from tours. The breakfast buffet was outstanding.

We stayed here for a couple of nights as part of Iceland Travel's 'Hidden Powers & Northern Lights' tour. It's not walking distance to the city centre and the taxi fare is around 2000 kroner. But on the plus side its location makes it possible (I'm told) to see the aurora from the hotel itself (which has a north facing entrance).
It has an appealing interior design and the breakfast (which thankfully starts at 4.30am - limited range until around 6.30am) was good.
Free wifi in lobby as well as rooms.
