“A bargain!”
Reviewed 10 December 2013

We had a twin room for a very low price. Yes the room was basic and beds small. However, it was clean, warm, and there was a good breakfast buffet in the morning. We were very happy! Excellent value..

Yes, the reviews are pretty mixed on here but I really enjoyed the stay as a base to see amazing Iceland.

The hotel is basic and bills itself as such. However, the room we had was comfortable if a little worn. The bathroom was adequate. As we were there around the time of 24 hour daylight we hardly spent any time in the room other than to sleep and were fortunate to have great weather (for Iceland) with sun and no rain.

Breakfast, again, a basic offer but if you can cope with toast, bread, cereal, hard boiled eggs, cheese and some salad items you can really fill up before a day out and about in Iceland.

The location is a little way out of the City. Basing my review on summer and constant light this was not a problem for us at all. A bracing walk along the seafront into town - taking around 25 minutes - 35 minutes depending on pace was perfect for us.

My tip - if you are looking for a base to tour and take day trips and don´t mind a stroll into the City then book this. If you are looking for a higher end room where you can relax, have the facilities and spend time in the room then have a look around before booking.

We had a long weekend here for my husband s seventieth birthday. Our room was large, very warm, with tv in English. Note however, some of the rooms are very tiny so check this out if its important to you. It was very clean, with a large bathroom/shower room. There was no kettle however, and I remembered to bring my hair drier. The breakfasts were continental style and very nice. However, there was only a small salad bar for other meals so you needed to go out for dinner. It was a bit too far from the centre for us as by night time, after brilliant but long bus tours, we were too tired to go far for dinner. This for us was quite a drawback.

Room Tip: Ask about the size. Different grades of room, some are tiny. Much better to upgrade

We read the reviews and were really concerned about this hotel, expecting something like a hostel. What we got was a very compact room with en-suite and small wardrobe type clothes hanging area with shelves. It looked newly decorated and furnished and was spotless. The bedding was good quality cotton. To be honest we have stayed in a smaller room in the UK so the size wasn't an issue, especially as we hardly spent any time there. We were only there for four nights so we spent every available minute seeing what we could of Iceland. There was an area near our room with sofas and tables where you could sit if you needed to spread out a bit. A group of Chinese tourists gathered in that area each evening. They brought a kettle and were able to enjoy refreshments together with loads of space. We noticed they had no hairdryers and brought our travel one with us. The only niggle was having to pay for wifi. As our room was facing the front we got wifi whenever a tour bus was outside. But on the second day we got the Cabin wifi automatically and had it free until we left. Breakfast was also better than we expected. We expected it would be a pretty basic continental, but it was very good quality healthy food with loads of choice. We found the staff to be very helpful. We found it very thoughtful that housekeeping staff noticed that we had wine with us and left a couple of glasses on the table for us. It was a short walk to centre of Reykjavik, but we enjoyed that. We preferred being a little out of town. An added benefit was that we were dropped off first when we returned from tours. We were dreading going here and expected to have to upgrade, but we were happy with our stay here.

Spent 3 nights here. Plenty of parking and easy to find. Rooms are small, tired and basic but the bedding and towels were clean which is the main thing. Basin in the bathroom is so small with a shelf over it so don't knock yourself out when you clean your teeth!
Staff were neither friendly nor rude.

I book our Iceland holiday as a deal with Broadway Travel which included the Northern Lights Tour. We had to upgrade our room as it was tiny and had a terrible view or a car work shop. Two people sharing (one person being 6ft 2!) would have problems and it was two single beds. In comparison to the room we upgraded to which was about the same as an Ibis hotel room, beds already made into a double and a view of the coastline. It cost about £50 to upgrade for three nights which was worth it and we still got a good deal. The reception desk staff were not chatty or helpful (perhaps they didn't speak very good English) but if you want help with anything either look it up before you go or ask the taxi drivers (if you use them) or the bus drivers who helped us with how to get to where we needed (change over on buses) or with local knowledge! I have uploaded photos of original room and upgraded room (both views as well). Rooms we're clean and comfy and warm! So all in all was very pleased and had a great time :0)

Excellent budget hotel in a great location. Single rooms are small but they have everything you need, except hairdryers. Reception and gift shop staff are super helpful. Breakfast is varied and good for veggies.
