“Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2011

Rooms were basic, (no kettle) and there was cold broccoli at the salad bar but the breakfast was great and it was opposite subway and we had an amazing view of the mountains from our window. I would definately stay again!

This is an excellent basic hotel, as noted by others rooms are small but adequate (named because rooms are like cabins!). Great showers (constant hot water) and a very good buffet breakfast. Salad bar is cheap and filling. Nice 20 minute walk into town along the beach track.

We had a 4 night stay, early Feb., and had no problems whatsoever. The staff were very helpful, polite and efficient and the hotel was very well run. Our rooms were small, but we'd expected that, and we didn't need anything bigger as we were out all of the time anyway. We slept very well, no noise from ANYWHERE, and we had very comfortable beds and pillows. We were warm and totally OK with what we'd payed for, surprised by the lovely choice at breakfast ( wonderful breads & rolls especially) and very pleased we had the restuarant to use in the evenings, if we wanted it. It may have been a bit too much to trek into town to eat , tho' we did walk back from there a couple of times and found it ok to do, one way. The evening meal at the hotel was actually ok too, the salad bar was appetising, but maybe the hot food wasn't always brilliant. No complaints at all, go and enjoy it. Could see Yoko's Laser Light for John out of our window, and since we've been home, have seen the Northern Lights clearly in the sky behind it, via the web-cam (of course). What more could you ask for!! And we had breakfast on the day of our departure, at 4.30 am. Never had that before! Full marks for that alone!

This is my 3rd time at Hotel Cabin. Cannot fault the Hotel, although does feel like a deluxe 2 star hotel. The price is fantastically well worth it and includes a mediocre very basic breakfast, which fills you up and plenty of it too! The Walls are ok in the rooms, I slept like a log actually and BBC NEWS 24 is available! Rooms are tiny and actually feels like "a cabin". We had some disrespectful students staying near to us and I rang Reception to tell them to keep the noise down and go to bed - for which they did. Breakfast can be busy at weekends and students wearing nothing on their feet and just wearing pyjamas - did feel a bit like a youth hostel at breakfast. The locaton is great, 5 minute walk to the very cheap Laugadelar Thermal Swimming Pool, Hot Pots and Steam Room, this is why I love it so much. Also the hotel has a splendid view of Mount Esja - beautiful!!. I WILL BE BACK!! - Thank you!

Reading past reviews, I thought this place could be either great or a nightmare, but I went ahead and booked.

My thoughts:

Icelandic people aren't rude, they are just not geared to customer service, so don't expect warm gushing welcomes and offers to assist. It's request driven, so if you want/need something ask!

The rooms are not small, they are tiny, I am 5ft7 and the beds were small for me, you sleep a foot away from the other single bed - so you'd have to be close to the person yoru sharing with.

The hotel is spotless - it's so clean for a budget hotel its great and refreshing to see a budget hotel putting so much effort in.

The walls are paper thin, so if you are expecting an undisturbed sleep, then think again. You can hear everything from all the rooms we did not sleep at all on one evening, perhaps the couple in the room two doors away were on there honeymoon - or going for an oscar!

Don't be confused, the above points may put you off, but this place is super clean and cheap as chips and this balances things as Iceland is an expensive place to be.

I always work on the would I come back rule and the answer is yes.

I travelled to Iceland last June, and I've just become a member on tripadvisor so I figured I would give my impressions. I stayed at this hotel with about 20 other students. The rooms weren't horrible, but they were very small and the walls were so thin that we could hear when our neighbours were talking or coming in after a late night. Being June, it was light all the time and the curtains don't cover the underside of the window so some of the light got in at night, which if you're a light sleeper it may make it difficult to sleep.

In terms of location the Hotel wasn't bad. It's right accross the street from a gas station, and Subway, so if you need small things it's very convenient. It is quite a walk to the main street though, about 15-20 minutes, but its a straight road and very easy to find the main shopping street from this hotel. There is not much scenery on the walk though, just tall buildings and industrial looking spaces. It just kind of sucks when you come back from a day on the main street, that if you've forgotten to pick something up, or need to get ready to go out that night, its another 20 minute walk to your destination. It is also about a 20 minute walk from the mall, which isn't bad. But once again it's along what seems to be one of their main highways, and there isn't much scenery apart from the apartment buildings. The hotel is along a bus route though so if you need to get somewhere fast and don't mind paying, you're in luck.

The hotel lobby has a bar and internet access. The internet is REALLY expensive here, and compared to other hotels I've been too I'm not sure it's worth the price. It's about 10 bucks for 30 minutes, and the internet is kind of shoddy and slow. There were also multiple times where I used the internet and logged off, but for some reason my time kept running down and the next day I wouldn't have any time left.

The breakfast was a pretty standard European breakfast. There were fruits, breads and cereals as well as hardboiled eggs.

Overall, I would stay at this hotel again but given the price, I believe I could find a better situated Hostel with private rooms for a lower price.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Cabin. After reading some reviews on the place, we sort of knew that the rooms were on the small side. We found the room and bathroom to be very clean and the beds were really comfortable. The room was just the right temperature. It was a joy to have a shower with such plentiful amounts of hot water!
We found the reception staff to be friendly and were more than happy to assist with booking our excursions for us. The breakfast was of a buffet style, nice and fresh with a good selection to suit most people. We also had our evening meal twice at the hotel. This was again a buffet style consisting of a salad bar, hot soup with fresh bread, and a hot dish (I had fish cake and boiled potatoes) There was a soft drinks dispenser and tea and coffee available. We found this to be extremely good value for money (£16 for 2 meals) The staff were very efficient in keeping the food area clean, tidy and topped up.
After speaking to a couple who were in a more expensive hotel, who told us that their room was cold, we felt very pleased that we had picked the Hotel Cabin for our first trip to Iceland!
I would love to go back to Iceland, and would book in at the Hotel Cabin again.
