“1* hotel had the best craic :-)”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2014

Booked though groupon fo five nights arrived and
there was a girl on front desk, God love her anytime the bell rang she would jump in the lift and disappear , later on we realise it was only Her manning the hotel,so customer service wasn't their priority. rooms were basic but did the job , and breakfast was ok , our radiator broke on the second night and the young man jhesus was very helpful, even gave up his room for us, he made the holiday as during the night while we were on the internet, he would tell us where was good to go in Iceland, and places away from the tourist trap, bear in mind the hotel is basic with no frills and the local tourist info can't understand why it's still open , but our group had the best craic in this faulty towers hotel :-)

The good things about this hotel are that it is centrally located, clean, the people were aloof but nice, and the wifi worked.
On the other hand, they don't seem to care about the comfort of their guests at all. The bed made noise when you made even a small move, the shower was an area of the bathroom with a drooping shower curtain, the bathroom sink was tiny with a defective hot water knob, and the doors in the hotel made noise such that you would awaken in the night if another guest arrived or left. I really didn't mind that the room was tiny, but with all of these other issues, it really made for an uncomfortable, unrestful stay.

We stayed 6 nights at Thor's hotel since my husband had a conference and the hotel was pre-booked, else we would have changed. The room was small and old, but we cold have coped with it. Unfortunately there was no place for our luggage: a 50 cm mini wardrobe. We had to use our suitcases as drawers. Bathroom is small and needs maintenance, cleaning service is very basic and breakfast quality is low. Yet is right in the center. Value for money is bad

We where looking for a good priced hotel in the very city center of Reykjavik. We did not know what to expect of the Metropolitan, but as the price is very good compering to other hotels in Reykjavik centrum we booked it and we where surpriced how good it was.
Our room had a very good satelite tv and the beds are very comfortable.
Everything worked very fine, we could also have a nice breakfast and coffe for 7Euros. Just a coffe cost about 3 Euros in Iceland

Room Tip: Rooms faceing the back yard are more quiet

Location, location, location. That is the best thing to be said about the Met. Siggy, the owner, is a good guy and tries hard to please but there are many things to be changed or improved. Daily room cleaning would be the first place to start. They are installing cable TV but many of the rooms are so small a TV will barely fit in. The place could use a coat of paint and carpets. The elevator is prompt when called but the floor gives an unsettling 'bump' when you step out the door at your destination. The breakfast is barebones, bland and uninspired. If you want to be close to things to see and do in Reykjavik the Metropolitan is well located, it would not be a very comfortable place to spend a lot of time. Several of the rooms have a shower similar to that on a small sailboat - the shower splatters the floor in front of the commode.

Room Tip: Ask to look at the room before accepting it. Some have very small bathrooms or showers on top of th...

We have always wanted to go to Iceland and did a deal on the internet. We arrived in Reykjavik and settled into the hotel. It was very basic and decor was dated, but the staff were very friendly and helpful! Because Reykjavik is such an amazing place, we were not in our room long, but I would have struggled if we were there much longer. I will definitely be back to Reykjavik, but may look at spending a little more for some luxury.

Was in Iceland for a week due to an event in Reykjavik. I chose metropolitan hotel because it is near the venue.
Even people at the reception (at least when someone is at the reception) is kind and prompt. The wifi is strong and available in the structure.

But.... But they made my bed only once (the room was cleaned, in the sense that one small bathrobe was daily changed) and no soap was available and no TV was available (even if publicized).
I don't know if there is a strategy behind, but I understand the basicness of a structure but not so strongly pursued. I spent more than 100€/night
