A great experience made all the better by Thor and the wonderful staff of the hotel. I visited September 15 - 22, 2011 with two friends, all of us from the United States. The hotel is centrally located, easily accessible for walking and driving. The flybus stops there. The rooms and amenities are bright, clean and foundamentally sound in every basic way. The price is also just right. The hotel is close enough to walk everywhere and far enough away to escape any noise from downtown. The staff is helpful and friendly. Do not hesitate to ask questions. They are problem solvers who are conscious of your budget and who know the city and the country, especially Thor.
We used Reykjavik as a base exploring the city and driving to Blue Lagoon, Golden Circle, Selfoss, southern coastal road to Vik, Stykkisholmur and the Snaefellsnes peninsula. The country is a photographer's dream and the people of Iceland are friendly, forthright and speak English well. The weather went from rainy to grogeous blue sunny skies. The local restuarants vary in quality and price but there is something for everyone. Thor and his staff were most helpful with recommendations, reservations and the little insights which make a trip memorable. For example Thor directed me to Bobby Fischer's chair. You do know who Bobby Fischer is, don't you?

Room Tip: An upper floor with a balcony and a view.....

We stayed here on the first floor. Only about 5 TV stations (one in English) available. No satellite in room as stated. small room and tiny bathroom, they have free wifi, but very slow connection- could not use for internet and barely able to get emails. It was clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast consisted of a platter of cold cuts, pickled herring, breads/toast, jam, dry cereals and coffee/tea/juice-Very basic. It was well located for walking to in Reykjavik-near shopping and restaurants. Th Hallgrimskirkja with Leif Erickson statue was just outside the hotel.

I had a Great time here at the hotel. The staff was extremely helpful and gave me a great deal. The location couldn't have been better and I got to do everything I wanted. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfy. Awesome experience overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and relaxed hotel that is in a great area.

You have to measure this hotel in its correct category. It is affordable, and it is not positioning itself as anything approaching a luxury hotel.

I was there on a trip with a sports team. We wanted clean, central, decent, convenient accommodation. Nothing more. We all had similar, good experiences.

The location is very good. It's RIGHT next to an amazing futuristic looking church. It is also on top of a hill, which means you can see the church from anywhere. Very handy - you will never get lost walking back to this hotel.

My room was on the top floor. The decor was a bit dated, but clean. The room was plenty big enough, and even had a little balcony and some roof windows. The bed was skinny but comfortable. The bathroom was basic but clean and functional (the shower water smelled very sulphur-like, but I expect this would be the case at every hotel in Reykjavik). Breakfast was good enough, but could have been a little more expansive.

For all of the frills and fancy bits that aren't there, they get the little things right, which makes it a good place to stay.

Our group found that the two main girls working reception were exceptionally helpful, and friendly too. Ask them directions and they will draw it for you on a map, complete with a walking route!

Final plus - hassle-free wi-fi at no charge. No registration, token, nothing needed. Just connect and go. Unfortunately when we were there it was only available on the ground floor, but it did the job.

If you want luxury or romance, don't go. If you want an honest, affordable place that does the important things a hotel should do, this place is a good choice.

My husband and I just got back from spending 8 days at the Leifur Eiriksson. As people have said this is a very basic hotel but we didn't go to Iceland to spend time in the hotel. The hotel rooms were kept very clean and the people who worked there were very friendly and helpful. They arranged several tours for us and made dinner reservations. They have free wi-fi. It didnt work in our room but did in the breakfast area.
While there we went to the Blue Lagoon, the Jokulsarlon Lagoon(boat ride among the ice bergs), the Golden Circle and we snorkeled between the Northamerican plates and the Eurasian ones.
You can walk to anything in Reykjavik from the hotel and find your way back because you are across the street from the Hallgrimskirkja church which is the tallest building around.
One word of caution it is very expensive to eat in Iceland or to buy anything.

Room Tip: The hotel is in two buildings. You might want to ask for a room in the main one where the breakfast...

I have stayed at many hotels in Reykjavik over the years, but this is the one I always come back to! Situated right opposite the impressive Hallgrimskirkja which can be used as a good landmark if you get lost as it is visible from all over Reykjavik! Just down the road is the excellent Indian restaurant The India Mango. The staff here are amazingly friendly and helpful. Breakfast is served in the bar area and free coffee/tea/juice is available all day. The rooms are fairly small, but very clean - some looking out towards Hallgrimskirkja and others with a small balcony. Parking is available in the car-park near the cathedral.

This hotel, centrally located, is situated in a quiet zone and and very easy to locate, because it is right in front of the cathedral, the tallest building in Reykjavik. The rooms are basic, yet comfortable, clean and functional. Heating works perfectelly.
Life at the hotel is simple, you feel like home. Free wi-fi internet access at the reception area, all-day free coffee, tea, chocolate and orange drink at a buffet basis. Breakfast fair, with all you need. Family-run type hotel with an unexcedible customer care. I need to print the boarding passes to the check-in of the return flight, so they made me entre to the reception desk work area, access directly from the hotel computer to Icelandair web site and print it at the hotel printer. Simple and easy, no problem! All the excursions, car hire and all the activities arranged by reception desk at very good prices!
When i'll be back, I'll undoubtly stay here again!
