“Great Location”

Stayed here with my Mum in a twin room. The hotel is beautifully located, right opposite the Hallgrimskirkja church so views are lovely. With a top (3rd) floor room you avoid the street noise, but with no lift, getting luggage up was entertaining. Very close to the main shopping street so access to restaurants and shops is easy.

The rooms are compact, but comfortable and the staff were very helpful when it came to booking trips and the Flybus. The tour companies do collect/drop off at the hotel which is very useful.

The room decor was a little tired and the smell of sulphur in the water is weird to begin with, but you do get used to it. The self-service, but tasty, breakfast (Mum definitely got a taste for waffles) got a little crowded if you didn't get there early as there is only a small space by reception for tables. No drink facilities in the room, but free drinks were always available in the reception area. The hotel had free wi-fi too, which is always a bonus!

Room Tip: Third (top) floor rooms are quieter and have a great view.

I stayed in Hotel Leifur Eiriksson during my last trip to Iceland and I have to admit I really enjoyed my stay here. It is located perfectly for everything you could want to do in Reykjavik. It's close to all of the restaurants, the main street and while the tour company's come to you anyway they are close enough to walk to as well. The hotel itself is small as was the room we had. The single beds are very small compared to the equivalent in the UK but regardless it is comfortable and warm and a good night's sleep was had every night. The service is excellent. We ran out of soap one day and as soon as it was mentioned at reception someone was over to put more in the room. Whenever you ask for anything or advice etc nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I really cannot fault this hotel and when I next go back to Iceland I will check availability here first.

Stayed 5 nights in the Leifur Eiriksson hotel on a package break, booked through Icelandair. We were given room 208 on the first floor (right hand corner as you look at the hotel from the front). We had two zipped together single beds forming a huge double, which was comfy. The room wasn't very big, but adequate and we had a good view of the Hallgrimskirkja opposite. This was particularly lovely at night when the church is illuminated. Our room was clean and the staff were friendly and went out of their way to help. Breakfast was self-service and perfectly adequate with a range of cereals, ham, eggs, cheese, toasts and jams. The room and hotel in general were always lovely and warm when we returned from our trips and it was a nice touch that there are always hot drinks available in the dining room, free of charge.

The only criticism I have is what others have already mentioned - the en-suite bathroom was tiny and I absolutely hated that there was no way to have a shower without the wet shower curtain sticking to you.

The hotel is an easy walk to the centre, harbour and all the local attractions.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel overlook the church, which is very pretty.

My friend and I have just returned from a short break to Iceland. We stayed at the Hotel Leifur Eiriksson and were pleasantly surprised by it. Yes, the rooms are not massive but we found them to be perfectly big enough to 2 people and we had a fab view of the fabulous church just outside our window. The beds are quite comfortable; rooms clean; bathroom is small and bijou and as others have mentioned it did have a precarious step up/down which you had to make a conscious effort to not trip on; breakfast is basic continental style with the addition of 'do it yourself' waffles (which were lovely), 24 hour hot drinks available at no extra cost is a definite bonus and generally I would say that the hotel is good value for money. Staff appeared helpful at all times. There is a constant smell of sulphur from the water which is a bit strange at first, but you do get used to it. We did the Golden Circle Tour which was excellent and recommended and the Northern Lights trip too - we were lucky enough to see them although others on different nights were not so lucky. We did however find it difficult to get any photographs successfully so if anyone saw this light display on 29th March 2014 and has any photos to share on this sight, my friend and I would love to see them. All in all, the hotel, trip, experience, country etc. was a very enjoyable and memorable one indeed. Well recommended. Dawn & Karen, Nottingham, UK.

Room Tip: We stayed in 202 and 302 would also have the same wonderful view of the church, in fact all the room...

We booked a week's stay here with an unbeatable Icelandair package including flights. What the hotel has going for it is its location which is pretty unbeatable, and there is plenty of free car park space across the road if you have a rental car. You can walk down a gentle slope to any number of restaurants within 10 minutes, and even the Harpa concert hall is less than 15 minutes' walk away.
The Leifur Eriksson is a tourist hotel and offers little that is special or memorable. Beds are soft and pillows small. Most importantly you can be VERY unlucky with rooms. Some are tiny and cramped and very noisy indeed. The worst is probably 208 (the second floor is more of a mezzanine), but anywhere with the church view on this floor is close to the road and to traffic and passers by. The best room is unquestionably 302, on the front, followed by 301 on the back. These are considerably bigger than the small rooms, so ask for one of these if you can. There is also a small lounge with books tucked away on the 3rd floor which people don't seem to know about.
The hotel has no baths, so every room has a shower/toilet/basin unit which gets wet every time that you use the shower. Basins are small and can be badly fitted in some rooms. There is a big step down from the bathroom into the bedroom itself.
Room cleaning was very poor indeed. I suspect that, as most people stay for only a few days, the thorough cleaning is done on change-over, but our room was hardly cleaned during our stay (beds made and towels replaced, but nothing really cleaned, wiped or hoovered).
There is free wi-fi in the hotel but service is patchy and the extender often has to be rebooted to get logged on.
The breakfast is included and has pretty well everything you would want, but the room is cramped and can be very busy. Plenty of things are not replaced quickly enough (eg glasses, plates, fruit salad, waffle mixture) and some of the service was grudging - unusual in Iceland. The orange 'juice' is a horrible weak squash and the coffee, from an automatic machine, is terrible. Tables again we're not properly cleaned so were often sticky. The room needs to have a deep clean after every breakfast session but doesn't get it.
The reception staff were, for all of this, unfailingly helpful and polite, and attempted to sort out any difficulties.
In summary, a standard tourist hotel which is probably OK for a short break, but don't expect luxury, style or anything special. Because of the steps down on entry and the absence of a lift, the hotel is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. We would not stay here again.

we stayed here for 4 nights from 26.03.2014 - we arrived late in the early hours of the morning but the staff were helpful, arriving into the room was a bit of a shock it was a little basic with 2 small single beds and some bunk beds . i thought we had a double room booked . but after a good nights sleep it worked out ok as could unpack on my clothes and use the bunk beds to spread them all out. the hot water takes some time to come through but when it does its plenty hot enough. the only thing was trying to shower with the shower curtain so close it keeps sticking to you, not sure why they have a shower curtain as its a wet room style.
the rooms were kept clean and tidy, nice and warm. the staff there are very helpful and informative and the free coffee etc. all day is a real bonus. the breakfast was also fine as it comes free with the stay. the location of the hotel is ideal just a short walk away from the shops , a handy supermarket over the road. overal if you just want a simple basic hotel to stay in with friendly atmosphere and helpful staff you cannot go wrong here

Most importantly- the room was clean and breakfast was included. Our room had a sweet view of the church. It was tiny but not a big deal since we were pretty much only sleeping and showering there. The one weird thing is the floor of the bathroom is a full step higher than the bedroom. Decent for the price.
