We stayed at the Odinsve last weekend for a three night break. I booked with On Hotels at a great rate of £40 per night including buffet breakfast for a double room.

We arrived at 10.00 p.m. having first been to the Blue Lagoon (really great) and had a quick and easy check in - I had emailed earlier in the week to say we would be late, and was assured it wouldn't be a problem - the reception is open 24/7. Our room was on the second floor and to be honest I was quite anxious that the room would not be great for the amount we had paid - I was very wrong. The room was large, warm, clean and spacious. I think larger, more expensive rooms are available on higher floors with better views, but this was fine for our short stay - we didn't intend being in the room for that long. The bed was huge (I would say Super King) and very comfy - you just fell into it, and the bedding was excellent quality. The bathroom was quite small but perfectly adequate and very clean. There was a view of the church at the top of the hill which was lit up at night. It was really quiet and I slept really well - quite rare for me whilst on holiday. There were also tea making facilities in the room and supplies were replenished daily.

The breakfast was typical European buffet style and more than adequate.

Reception staff were really helpful and booked our trips and shuttle bus to the airport.

Overall an excellent value hotel in a good location - would recommend to anyone. I have paid a lot more worldwide for less inferior hotels costing more money.

I picked this hotel based on its ideal location and its positive Trip Advisor reviews and can vouch for both. Myself and a girlfriend had a terrific and welcoming stay over the New Year period at the Odinvse and would not hesitate in returning or recommending. We both had single rooms, 102 & 107, which were quiet, clean, bright, warm and more than spacious for one person. Both had wonderfully comfortable double beds and linens, plenty of warbrobe space and modern ensuite bathrooms. The in-room kettle and complimentary tea/coffee together with the bar fridge which we filled with cheese and snacks ensured we never rose or went to bed hungry. I enjoyed breakfast one morning at the hotel which was very filling with granola, eggs, cheese, ham, delicious toasted breads and pasteries. We did not dine in the restaurant. Location is ideal, easily walkable to everything you wish to see in Reykjavik and so much so that returning to the hotel throughout the day was never a chore. For dining options you will find you are surrounded by coffee houses, cafes, and restaurants, more than enough to find your budget option. And don't forget the little supermarkets nearby to keep you stocked, even their take-out coffee was machine perfect. Trips and tours will pick and drop off or you can take an easy stroll to the bus terminal as we did. Snow had fallen hard on the city the day we arrived and with the combination of Christmas lights Reykjavik and this neighbourhood was like an ideal post card. The hotel, with its lobby fire lit and delightful and helpful staff made our trip a real winter dream.

The staff where great in helping us arrange tours meals and giving advise. The location is perfect for seeing the city centre and getting to restaurants, though does mean slightly longer drives to get to tour destinations.

Rooms are very homely and comfortable with very good sound proofing.

Breakfast is continental only, which isn't to my personal taste.

Room Tip: The higher the better.

We got a good deal on this hotel when booked as a package through Expedia. The three of us stayed for five nights in two double deluxe rooms. The rooms, which were next to each other on the top floor, were spacious, with large balconies, comfortable seating areas and lovely panoramic views. They were also warm and quiet. On a previous winter visit in 2008 we had stayed at the Hilton Nordica, which was also a brilliant hotel, but we preferred our stay here because of the central location, which is probably more important in the winter when walking longer distances isn’t always easy. We were close to the main shopping streets and the Hallgrímskirkja church, which could be seen from one of our rooms (also worth a visit to the top for 500 ISK – great views). All of the main sights within central Reykjavik are within easy walking distance. The rooms had flat screen TVs with a wide range of channels, and tea and coffee making facilities which were replenished daily. The usual toiletries were also provided. The rooms were cleaned daily and were spotlessly clean. The reception staff were pleasant; check in and check out were straight forward, and they were happy to assist with the booking of tours and transfers. We didn’t use the restaurant in the hotel as it seemed a little expensive, but I understand that it is highly rated. Overall we would recommend this hotel, especially if you can find it a discounted price.

Stayed over New Year when the hotel was full and we had 3 rooms, one of which was a twin room, number 217. This was ridiculously small so avoid it unless it is for kids. Beds were very comfortable but because the room was so small, we're of child size. Other rooms were ok and big enough for a proper double bed, which, after one night in 217 we were moved to. 4 Star rating is really because of room facilities I.e. tv, hair dryer, tea/coffee making and not because of overall standard as it is a little tired if you look; paint peeling from ceilings, walls and woodwork etc. En-suites are small and also a little tired.
The Receptionist (Emma ) that we dealt with was very helpful and knowledgable and a credit to the hotel.
Breakfast is continental and quite nice.

My partner and I took a trip to Iceland over Christmas 2011 where we stayed 5 nights at Hotel Odinsve in a Junior Suite.
The hotel met our expectations with ease and we were very happy throughout our stay.
The location is perfect for the city, the room was quiet, clean, well appointed and had a great seating area where we could relax. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel but the breakfasts were good.
We found everyone connected to the hotel friendly and very helpful and any questions you have about excursions and arrangements then they are happy to answer and arrange.
We had a fantastic Christmas week and the Hotel certainly helped to make it special. Thank you.

Room Tip: The Junior Suite was a good option for us because we wanted to have some space to relax after the da...

Excellently located hotel in Reykjavik. The room I had was a good size and the bathroom clean and modern. They have blinds and light curtains - the blinds are essential in the summer (going to bed at night when its still light outside). The bed is comfy and they provide tea and coffee making facilities. There is a computer with internet access and a printer. The reception will book tours, coach tickets and treatments at the Blue Lagoon for you. Breakfast was good (cereals, fruit, breads, cheese etc), and we had a bar snack one night which was also good.

When I stayed there, a stag party from Norway was also there and they were extremely noisy for 2 nights. The hotel had a lot of complaints, and as an apology, they gave me a complimentary box of chocolates and free breakfast - much appreciated!

The hotel is within walking distance of pretty much everything in the main town centre - Reykjavik is very small, you can walk from one end to the other in about 15 mins. Most of the shops (not the tourist ones) open after 10 and close by 6. Check the museum websites for opening times and admission fees - the free tourist brochures had some mistakes in them. I did a couple of tours when I was there - one along the south coast and one further inland to the geysers and waterfalls. Its easy to book trips, there are lots of companies all offering the same trips, and you are picked up /dropped off at your hotel.

Dont forget your scarf and gloves - even in early June the temp was only around 10C and it was wet.
