“Friendly Odinsve”
Reviewed 2 December 2008

We spent four nights at Hotel Odinsve and had a wonderful stay.

All the requirements sought in a hotel were met: nice, clean rooms, good location, good value for money, good food and great staff.

The staff were very friendly and most helpful in providing tips on Reykjavik.

The location was a 5 minute drive to the bus station and a 3 minute walk to the main shopping area and plenty of good bars/restaurants (which the staff kindly recommended).

The breakfast food was good and the restaurant looked very nice although we didn't eat dinner there; it was busy each evening with both locals and tourists.

The clientele is varied from older couples/groups to younger professionals, from tourists to Icelandic people.

  • Liked — The staff were very helpful, handy location
  • Disliked — There was a bit of noise from the restaurant below room

This hotel was in a perfect location for shopping! Friendly staff, clean facilities, really comfy beds and very quiet. The restaurant attached to the hotel was nice and my friend and I had the 20 course "tapas" style banquet - good opportunity to sample some local cuisine like reindeer and ox tongue!

Would recommend this hotel, although the bathroom was a bit on the small side but it was well worth the money for such a central and quiet location. Definetely stay here again!

I stayed over a long weekend at this hotel and I really recommend it to you. I booked a single room but on arrival I was upgraded to a double room so I could stay in a room next to a friend´s who was travelling with me. Both rooms were roomy and comfy. The beds were incredibly comfortable, plus I had a beautiful view over Reykjavik´s roofs and the seaside as my room was on the front side. The hotel is located at the heart fo Reykjavik´s shopping center next to Laugavegur street but in a quiet residential area so you don´t need to put up with the noise of the frenzy Reykjavik´s Saturday night fever. All sightseeing attractions are very close and within short walking distance. Reception desk was very welcoming and helpful all the time and all of them. The breakfast buffet was just superb and tasty. Very clean and tidy rooms, free internet wi-fi connection in all the rooms and very comfy beds: you dont feel like getting out of your bed!. As we were leaving very early in the morning, they even had the breakfast ready for us at 4.30 in the morning!

Direct pick-up at the hotel for Airport bus and excursions

I really recommend you this hotel. It is the perfect choise for everybody who wants to enjoy Reykjavik staying at the heart of the city but being able to have quiet and relaxing nights.

My friend and I stayed for five nights when we came to 'see' Iceland. The Hotel is a nice, plain, modern building without any charm or character in a perfect location- away from the noise of the bars and the main streets, but within easy walking distance of everything. Our compact 'Ikea' style twin room was clean, basic and comfortable with a small shower bathroom - we both would have preferred a bathtub to soak in after a long day exploring, however the shower was hot and powerful. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They were happy to confirm excursions, iron out any problems, help with taxis and directions - they could not have done more. We ate in the restaurant several times in the evenings and the food was excellent. The breakfast buffet was also very good indeed. The bar area is tiny, really just a waiting area for the restaurant, and the only seating area is in reception and not comfortable. Coupled with the fact that the rooms are very small this means that there is nowhere in the Hotel where you can comfortably spend any down-time in between excursions or appointments. The general ambience of the Hotel is informal and friendly which seems to rub off on the guests, who all seemed very pleasant and cheerful. We feel we made a good choice!

Based on other reviews of the hotel, my mother and I decided to give it a try. We could not have been happier. The location is on a quiet street just minutes from the main shopping streets and Reykjavik Harbor. The staff were very friendly and accomdating. The hotel has a restaurant attached which served a great menu. The daily breakfast has a wide assortment of pastries, cereals, etc. The rooms are small in comparison to American hotel rooms, but you are really only in the hotel to sleep. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Iceland!

Stayed at Hotel Odinsve with wife and baby daughter for six nights. Very positive experience. Terrific location - central but off the main streets. Nice comfortable junior suite. Good breakfasts (fresh fruit, variety of breads, pastries, etc.). Friendly staff, a bit scattered at times (e.g. we were nearly charged for a restaurant meal we never had - room numbers were confused). Nonetheless, staff were helpful and accommodating. Overall a wonderful stay.

Stayed at this hotel with the family for 6 nights in August. Hotel is in a quiet area but only 5 minutes walk from shopping and bars. Rooms and bathrooms aren't huge but are pefectly ok. Hotel is clean, beds are comfortable and breakfast is fine. Breakfast is buffet with fresh fruit, pastries, meat, fish, eggs, cereals etc. we had one evening meal there which was very good. Modern european style food, vegetarian daughter was also impressed. Cheapest wine was about £60 so we passed on that. We had two rooms on the top floor with a joint balcony overlooking the city and the sunsets. We had a hire car and the hotel doesn't have a car park but there is plenty of on and off street parking if you search around. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Reykjavik is a great city, compact with loads of restauarants and bars. Iceland is expensive but excellent, save up and go.
