I went to 1919 Restaurant on a night out with friends. The atmosphere in the Restaurant is warm and welcoming and the staff was friendly. The waitress Inga took extremely good care of our group and we ordered her cocktail "Seduction by Inga" which was nice and refreshing on the first warm day this summer.
The food was good, although I could have done with some more vegetables with my meat.
As a local I get asked for recommendations quite regularly and I can easily recommend 1919!

We were based here for four nights on this, our third trip to Iceland. Hotel is very central, though I think most rooms do not have much of a view. Our room on the fourth floor had a good floor area but was under a sloping roof, reducing the usable part. You had to be tall to see anything but sky from the Velux windows. There was little storage space. Shower room was quite cramped. Breakfast represents very good value at 17 euro. Staff are peasant and efficient. Last time we stayed at the Borg, which has way more character. This time it was way too expensive. In contrast the 1919 is a decent hotel run by a reliable chain which offers reasonable value in an expensive city.

The title says a lot: expect many of the qualities of Iceland to be purified here. Our server was witty, respectful, most helpful, diligent, thorough and charming. The mushroom soup was divine. The decor, old Reykjavik, had charm, but was updated cheaply a few years back to make it look modern and suffered from that being done without imagination and, by the looks of it, in a hurry. The wine had oxidized just a bit, in the bottle, which was across the hall, at the bar, and had to be fetched, but the pour was generous. The main course was average, but nicely displayed on the plate, and the waiter who replaced our server when she went off shift was the guy from the bar, who was efficient and respectful but more a bar kinda guy than anything else. That is all quintessentially Iceland, and you will find it everywhere, pretty much, in one incarnation or another, but you can find better lamb and wine and ambience for the same price, although not a better waitress and you will likely find no quieter place if you want a table in a place all night without being disturbed. Respect here is icelandic: you are the one to ask to be disturbed. Go for the soup and the fish and the bread, order wine by the bottle, and remember, the server who makes the place come alive leaves at 8. At that point, the cooks start preparing breakfast. All in all, it's kind of like sitting in your kitchen at home, really, but you can find that in dozens of cafes in Reykjavik, too, for a far lower price. Darn, but it was a nice soup, though.

Rooms are modern and clean

Unusually for a radison this has a nice boutique feel about it

Small gym is ok

Free Internet

Nice location on the bay front with stunning views about 100m away, located next to alot of good restaurants- use these restaurants because the food is not great!
Breakfast is €30 for a buffet- ridiculous!

Local healthy option of oven baked cod comes swimming in oil- chef is trying a bit to hard to create something which it is not

Other than food I can definitely recommend this for a stay in Reykjavik

My partner called 1919 in early January on a weeknight to make dinner reservations for us at 21:00. It was 20:30, and the maître d’ who answered the phone told him that they were planning to close the restaurant early because it was a slow night -- and we were told to arrive right then at 20:30 if we'd like to eat. What kind of restaurant dictates what time their guests should arrive (unless it's one that is nearly booked solid for the night and only has one or two dining slots opens)?! Unacceptable. We decided not to go...and not to try eating there due to the rudeness of the maître d’.
