Owner description: Perlan - Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders, will open it's doors in the summer of 2017. When finished this will be the biggest exhibition of the natural wonders of Iceland. While construction takes place, the building will be open to visitors so they can enjoy one of Reykjavik's best viewing platforms. On the fourth floor, Kaffitar will open a pop-up cafe. This summer we will open the Glacier Exhibition, the first part of the Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders, which is being built on two storeys in one of Perlan’s six hot water tanks. It will illustrate the glaciers, their history and future, and give visitors the amazing opportunity to experience travelling through one of them. At the same time a new and exciting restaurant will open on the top floor of Perlan, underneath the huge glass dome. On the fourth floor will be a gift store that specializes in Icelandic craft and design. The second part of the Museum of Icelandic Natural Wonders opens in 2018: a new, cutting-edge planetarium that offers a 360-degree domed immersive experience with surround sound and the best image quality available in the world today. In the summer of 2018 we will open the third part, which will also be the largest part to date. Now we will use the entire ground floor of Perlan to feature various pearls of Icelandic nature.

“Great views over Reykjavik”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

The Perlan is a short drive from central Reykjavik. Initially we hadn't planned to visit the Perlan but thought we would pop in on our way to the Blue Lagoon and I am really pleased we did. The car park is right next to the front door, there is a lift straight to the top and there are 360 degree views of Reykjavik for free. We popped into the cafe for a snack and a drink with incredible views. Its certainly worth popping in!

“Interesting place”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

Some wonderful city views from the domed building on the hill. Interesting concept, water storage and museum. The gift ship offered some good pastry to eat, the apple cake was tasty. Great photo ops

“Fasinating place to visit”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

An ultra modern geo-thermal facility in the heart of Reykjavik, explaining just how Iceland uses this natural resource. At the top is a nice café with a huge veranda to view a 360 panoramic. Finally, at the very top is a revolving restaurant, for those special occasions. Brilliant.

“Beauty and practicality”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

We went to the Pearl as part of a City Tour. Extremely interesting and wonderful views across the city from the high balcony area. Coffee and cake was reasonable (for Iceland!). Unfortunately we did not have time to go into the exhibition, but will go if we return. The Icelanders have definitely got their heating and hot water sussed - they are technically world leaders in this - do find out more as we did, if you have time.

It is a beautiful building. The view is breathtaking. The museum is OK. Honestly I expected more but... Beterraba take the bus to get there.
