Owner description: The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is a work of art conceived by the legendary artist and peace advocate Yoko Ono as a beacon to world peace. It is dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. The IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is located on Viðey Island in Kollafjörður and it's light is well visible from Reykjavík city and the capital area. Every year the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER emerges an hour after sunset between 9 October (Lennon's day of birth) and 8 December (Lennon's demise). In addition the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER emerges for one week on winter solstice, on New Year's Eve, for one week during spring equinox and few other selected dates. The ever changing weather conditions play an interesting part to the strength, intensity and brilliance of the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER’S light. During it's lighting time guided tours are avaiable called the Imagine Peace Tour. The tour is dedicated to the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER and Lennon’s and Ono’s continuing campaign for world peace. It is run by Elding with departures from Reykjavík's Old harbour. The tour unites history, art and nature is an interesting way.

Like the previous reviewer, I was also lucky enough to have the opportunity to go over to Videy for the lighting of the Imagine Peace Tower. This was my 2nd visit to Videy, having previously spent a day there during the summer of 2010. Seeing the Tower lit was for me a very special experience which added the icing on the cake to an otherwise already very special visit.

The weather may have been chilly, but there was real warmth in the hearts of all those who attended, including the wonderful team of stewards and other staff, not forgetting the bus and ferry operators. To see those beams shooting up into the night sky and again the following evening back in the city was an experience I am not likely to forget. The crowds, the choir and of course Yoko Ono herself all made for a most memorable evening.

We were in Reykjavik last week and lucky enough to be able to see the light lit this year. In previous years I've seen it from across the water but this time we managed to get the boat across and see/hear Yoko dedicate it this year.

The music, the light and the dark add something special to the atmosphere and create something spine tingling. . . . it was a night i'll not forget for a long time and it's a beautiful piece of art and design

We were lucky enough to see the light on our trip. Its lovely against the dark sky.
We didn't go across to Videy as we were of the opinion that we didn't need to see the lightbulbs to appreciate the light and the message of peace it sends.
It's a lovely addition to the city.

Now this "thing" is just AWESOME. You will have to be in Reykjavik over the winter time to see it but it sure is worth it. The story about it is a bit fascinating but the time that it is on is also perfect, and sad as well. But it is the 2 Lennon dates that make it what it is.
