“One of the best hotels in town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2011

We stayed for the first night upon arrival. Excellent location. Very modern; great service. We did not stay on a weekend so we did not experience the usual "noise". We did so at Hotel Borg a week later where our Friday night before early Saturday return flight was "lousy" - partying throughout the night. Rooms are not cheap but none of your "better" hotels here are. Think of the prices of staying in central London or Paris...

Many have added that there are issues with noise on weekends. This is not to be taken likely as we endured it last week. Yes, you can go to the back to try to avoid it...but really is that what you are paying all of this money for? Pick a hotel that you know in advance is off the main party lines...not Hotel 101.

Room Tip: Somewhere else.

The rooms at the front are very noisy at the weekend (Thurs-Sun) so if you can, request a room facing the 'art wall'. People from the bar spill outside to smoke and the noise is carried to the rooms above. Although the view is splendid over the port, the noise did go on well into the wee hours....
otherwise, the staff were really friendly and the hotel is wonderful.

This is a great hotel for a short stay with a partner. Funky, sexy, cool it screams boutique hotel and the location is absolutely spot on for wandering around central Reykjavik and visiting the local restuarants and bars.
As a business traveller staying for a week there were drawbacks: no iron or ironing board in the room and laundry services are expensive. No tea or coffee facilities in the room is a pain - you don't always want room service! Rooms are small and the clothes storage is open air (open shelves and hanging) which makes inviting colleagues to your room to work a bit awkward.
Recommend for short romantic trip

I was a little bit hesitant to book the 101 because it is a bit more expensive but as this was a special trip with my spouse I wanted to make sure we had something nice. I absolutely love this hotel. The location is excellent and in walking distance to everything. Our room was not large but it was quiet and cosy. The rooms have a nice minimalist feel and the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was included and was incredibly delicious. Yoghurt, eggs, fish, pastries, delicious cereals and excellent coffee. The woman who worked the breakfast room was friendly and also offered, in addition to a fabulous cappuccino, a wealth of knowledge about the country. The staff who worked the desk were very helpful in selecting restaurants or locating hard-to-find fly-fishing shops. In the evenings, it was nice to have drinks by the fireplace in the bar. The bar was lively and the appetizers delicious. 101 has a very relaxed boutique feel to it. There were no tour busses or groups and all in all it provided a very intimate, romantic experience

Very contemporary hotel, certainly innovative in it's design - this was something to enjoy in the bar/lounge resturant but it was slighly odd having a glass panel in the centre of the bedroom (tricky through the night on occasion) dividing the sink from the bed - looked good, but not totally practical! Rooms very 'crisp' - lovely bed linen, lovely and clean, nice big walk in shower (note - only stay here with a good friend/someone you know well - toilet has a none locking glass door off bedroom, another design feature no doubt). Loved the lounge and bar area and cocktail hour appreciated (great cocktail list) - despite everything Iceland's still not that cheap - good food too (pricey). We don't shy away from top end hotels and appreciate they don't come cheap, but just felt that this place sort of 'took your eyes out' on lots of things, consdering the room was already in the region of £200 per night - I made the error of 'unsealing' a travel adaptor from it's drawstring bag, using it once and putting it back where I found it only to be charged £15 for the privilege. I was happier about this when told it was also a US adaptor as I was going on the US - but it turned out to be anything but. In a hotel of this sort of ilk, I'd expect travel adaptors to be available free of charge if guests forget them. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel both felt expensive and overall, I think all the extras left us with a slightly unfavourable view of this hotel. The howling gale didn't help either - nothing 101 could do about the weather but we had a howling noise in our room at nights, from the air con vents due to the wind - the place we stayed at just before 101 didn't have this problem, despite even worse wind there! Made for some very bad sleep. If you love super modern design, all glass and cool and black and white, and don't mind racking up too much of a bill, then 101 is perfect. It's actually a really nice hotel, just not for us.

We stayed at 101 for my birthday a few weeks ago and while everything was beautiful and well-curated, I was disappointed in the hotel. The bed was horrible. I actually took the bottom sheet off the bed to determine what company would make such a terrible bed. Sealy does apparently. We "slept" terribly. It was in room 303.

On to a happier note, they had an awesome gym and spa. REALLY really nice and no one was there when I visited so I had the whole place to myself.

I went into making a reservation there knowing it's a high priced option but there were some outrageously pricy things. They have a cozy lounge bar but it serves $25 drinks. Seriously. Also there's a great looking CONTINENTAL breakfast bar offered in the restaurant but it's an additional $25/person. That's just too much to pay for muesli and skr.
