Unlike most places in Iceland the service here was attentive and friendly. They were so enthusiastically helpful.

Its moderately priced and while the rooms are not fancy (they kind of reminded me of an Ikea ad) they were extremely comfortable and met all of our needs. We spent 6 nights in room 306. It was at the end of the hall and quiet.

There is no restaurant at the hotel, but we loved this quality because it forced us to always go out an explore. Our only issue was when we needed breakfast before 8, because NOTHING opens early in Iceland. Luckily there were two bakeries on the same street that had coffee, Skyr (their version of yogurt) and pastries. The hotel staff can direct you to the best one to meet your needs.

But seriously, the best part about this hotel was its location. Many people decided to stay further out of town that we met while in Iceland and we loved that we could walk to everything (no car needed if you stay here).

It's true that "luxury" is an overstatement, but Room with a View was a good place for three of us to stay during a conference in Reykjavik. You can do as much or as little self-catering as you like, and there are numerous restaurants in the vicinity. The desk staff were very helpful and friendly. There were fresh towels every day, and they supplied some very good ground coffee. Our room was quiet, as it was on the top floor and on the side away from the street.

Room Tip: Go for the side away from the street. From the top floor the view out over the city is nice, and you get the morning sun.

Heavy sleepers have no need to read this. My wife was awakened at 1:30am and repeatedly until the bar closed. Every time the back door was opened by a patron stepping out for ???, the music blared out. Making things worse we the people attempting to talk over the music by screaming at each other. While the hotel thought that this is normal and expected for Saturday night in the big city, it made catching up on sleep lost from jet-lag. Though there were no apologies given for setting us up for the loud noise, screams and shouting until 4:30 am, they put us up in a nearby room that required us to lug
all of our suitcases up 3 flights of stairs. We slept better, not only because it was quiet through the night, but to rest from the strain of moving everything from one location to the next, and carrying luggage up those 3 flights of stairs

We booked the penthouse apartment more than 6 weeks before arrival. However, on arrival we were told that 'as we didn't take up the inclusive taxi service we had been upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment'. This apartment was MOST DEFINITELY NOT an upgrade. It was a small shabby and dark apartment with a view directly into the apartment opposite. When we complained it quickly became evident that the real reason was that the penthouse apartment that we had booked had not been cleaned after the previous occupants had left. A cleaner was subsequently called back in to clean the penthouse and we finally received the key to the apartment we had booked over 4.5 hours after our arrival. Not Ideal, especially as the cleaner only changed the bed and and gave the bathroom a cursory wipe over.
The apartments could be really nice but unfortunately were in need of a really good deep clean and a lot of general maintenance. About half of the light bulbs didn't work, electrical sockets were either hanging out of the walls or simply didn't work at all. The balcony/terrace was extremely dangerous with broken and missing decking and some old wooden steps/stairs thrown into the centre (going nowhere ???).
Thurs/Fri/Sat nights are noisy. There is a club opposite which is open until 5am.
There was no information pack in either apartment and no instruction manuals for any of the electrical appliances. We got the distinct feeling that nobody really gave a damn.
On the positive side, the beds were really comfortable, the views from the penthouse apartment were great and we couldn't fault the location. We even managed to park in the small private carpark every night.
Overall A Disappointing Stay...

Room Tip: Thursday Friday & Saturday nights are really noisy (until 5am) so invest in some earplugs for a good nights sleep.

They are advertised as luxury apartments and though they are a good standard they aren't luxury. Our room must have been the smallest although it did have everything you could need, including micro. I guess there are different levels of luxury here. However, it is right in the Main Street and although it could be noisy that didn't bother me. The staff were very helpful and I think that is much more important than the amenities. I would stay here again but there are probably cheaper alternatives just as good.
