I stayed two nights in Fitjar Guesthouse. One of the best bed and breakfast I've ever stayed. Breakfast was good, the bedroom was clean and comfort with the private toilet. (I took the room as en-suit type). There was a shared kitchen where I cooked for my dinner by myself. On top of that, I really enjoyed beautiful scenery around Fitjar Guesthouse.

The owner was friendly and helpful. She provided a lot of useful tips to travel in Iceland.

Definitely value for money, would recommend it.

Quick review. One of the best Guesthouse we've seen in Iceland. There's a stable next to the guesthouse and we got to pet the cute Icelandic Horses. My kid loves it. Room was quiet, kitchen was clean and functional. Staff was very friendly.

Overall highly recommended, you can't go wrong. And it's cheap. Oh, the breakfast is worth it I think, although a llittle on the expensive side, but hey it's Iceland, I've seen worse.

Cheers !

My wife and I were returning from the north coast of Iceland on the day before our flight home. We're crazy about Icelandic horses, and we wanted to stay overnight in or near Mosfellsbaer, a town with excellent horse facilities, breeders, and trainers. Fitjar was exactly what we needed. Making a reservation by email was easy, the reply was prompt, and the rate was good. As you're traveling south on Highway 1, their sign is easy to see at the side road to the guesthouse. It's a family-run place, and they're very friendly and hospitable. Our en-suite room was comfortable, and from our window we could see the horse track across the river!
It's a short drive to the old-town area of Alafoss, where there's an old woolen mill and a good restaurant, Kaffihusid Alafossi. In a newer part of town is a bakery that is always our first stop when we arrive in Iceland.
The breakfast buffet was simple, varied, and satisfying, and we had a nice conversation with other travelers. When we left, we went straight to the horse track to see a competition.
From Fitjar, it's an easy drive into Reykjavik and onward to Keflavik airport.
One tip: When you turn onto the side road, don't stop at the first lovely house you see. That's not it. Keep driving a little further to the next lovely house you see, the one with the sign.

Room Tip: Ask for an en-suite room on the ground floor. Very convenient to the breakfast nook and the parking...

Instead of booking all of our accomodation ahead we decided to try stopping at a couple of places and picking something on the day. The room was small and basic. The bed linen looked a little old and past its best. I felt the price for what we received was very expensive. If it had been cheaper (a lot) I would have marked this as average.

I am sorry to read that you were unhappy with your stay with us .
We have recently purchased new bed sheets ,blankets and pillows so all is updated .
However we are on the lower price range in our area so we are unsure why you found us expensive .
I do believe that we should have had a higher rating .

Fitjar is simple, comfortable and covers the basics if you are looking for something inexpensive around Rekjavik.
The place is well run, clean and the crew is helpful, informed and informative. The town itself is not that interesting, but its great if you need a place to crash when arriving or leaving the country.
There's a well equipped communal kitchen, which we put to good use.
The owners and crew are friendly and generous.

We stayed at Fitjar at our last day in Iceland. What an awful experience! The bed and floor was wet/damp (it was in July), and then we complained about it, we got a snotty answer. It was an awful night to sleep in a wet bed. Stay away from this place and find something else, if you don't want your vacation riuned. Another thing is, it has nothing to do with a farm, it has to rabbits and some horses, it's a motel, that they have decided to build at the country to make some money, it has nothing to do with a farm. The room was not clean as well!

We were horrified to see your negative remarks on line and are not sure how this could have happened.
During the time of your stay I was out of the country on business and had a member of staff taken care of all.
We are a family friendly run guest house who have a horse stable with 10 horses, rabbits, chickens, cats and two dogs, so yes we have a farm feel to our home and no we are not a motel .
Still to this day I am having trouble understanding how our bed and floor was wet and our rooms are cleaned every day .Not sure about the negative answer from our staff.

This was a great place to stay outside of Reykjavik. It was our first night in town after flying in and touring the Golden Circle. We were exhausted and jet-lagged and the Fitjar was a clean guesthouse, quiet atmosphere, and friendly staff. Exactly what we needed for our first night in town. It is off the beaten path and remote, so not a good place to stay if you're planning on going out in the city; but otherwise, highly recommended.
