Description: A five story concrete building that once housed offices on the upper floors and a metalwork company on the ground floor, now is the home of restaurant The Steakhouse on the ground floor, the four floors above are now apartments. The old harbor area of Reykjavik has in the last couple of years, changed in to a real gem where various cuisines, museums and arts and crafts have replaced the metalworks and fisheries. The newest addition is STEIKHÚSIÐ, which simply means „The Steak House”. The name is a deliberately this simple and descriptive, the aim is to be the only steakhouse you think of after the first visit. The heart of Steikhúsið is the coal oven from Mibrasa and the soul is our own way of tendering meat for at least 28 days. Those who seek for something purely Icelandic won’t be disappointed, Steikhúsið also caters to those who want the best of Icelandic lamb and fish.

“Worth every penny.”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

Visited this restaurant on 27th April. We tried the day prior (Saturday) as a walk in but as we didn't have a booking they were too busy. So booking recommended on weekend evenings.
The waiting staff were very friendly, efficient and affective. A credit to the restaurant.
The mixed platter starter was delicious and gave a chance to sample a different variety of Icelandic style food (including mink whale and guillemot - hesitantly...)
The main was a Lamb steak - delicious! Dessert also nice.
Very refreshing to feel relaxed, to enjoy the décor, and not to feel rushed out of your seat, or waiting around for service. The price was 'Icelandic' and expensive . However would still recommend highly.

“Great Food - great evening”
Reviewed 29 April 2014 via mobile

Visited Steakhouse with my wife who more tends to fish than meat. Not disappointed. Great monkfish main. Mixed starter an lamb main dish was great too. If you like sweet deserts definitely go for the chocolate cake with caramel - but be warned - it will cover your weekly sugar intake

“Delicious!”
Reviewed 29 March 2014

I had a delicious 250g fillet steak with jacket potato which I thoroughly enjoyed. At least I did until I tasted my husband's triple-fried chips. All I can say is wow! I'm not really a chip-lover generally, I'll always pick another potato thing where there's a choice, but these chips are the best I've ever tasted. Husband had a 350g rib-eye steak and also enjoyed that but those chips...

Waitress was lovely, friendly but not intrusive and our service was excellent. They also provide free water (isn't it annoying British restaurants mostly don't?) and bring over freshly made bread with whipped Icelandic butter. Delicious!

We had a drink each and our bill was just under 40 quid which we felt was reasonable for the quality - it certainly wouldn't have been any cheaper in the UK for that quality. The restaurant is comfortable and the toilets have the strangest tap I've ever used so worth a peek!

The Steakhouse is on the main 'coastal' road so it's really easy to find and is a minute's walk from parking but it's so central if you're staying in Reykjavik there's a good chance you'll be in easy walking distance.
