Description: An Icelandic tradition since 1958. Mokka is one of Reykjavik's oldest cafés and the first to install an espresso machine and serve espresso, cappuccino, and café latte in Iceland. There's a tempting selection of sandwitches, cakes, and the coffee and hot chocolate are excllent with their famous house waffles, served with cream and jam. The déckor - red carpet, leatherette booths and stools - hasn't changed much althought the art on the walls is changed every 4-6 weeks as the café has doubled as an Art gallery with new art for sale since opening.

Paid approx 900 krona ($9 CAD) for a latte and an espresso - on par with the rest of Iceland. The coffee was average tasting but the cafe is definitely worth visiting because it is the oldest in town, is centrally located, and has stayed traditional - no music and with unique atmosphere and artwork decorating the cafe. Worth hanging out in for a bit.

A small place with excellent coffee. I had tea that came in a teapot and a really great waffle with whipped cream and jam. The crowd is bobo and older, at least on the afternoon that we stopped in for a light lunch.

Chocolate cake seemed like it'd been there a while but still tasted good enough. Hot chocolate was decent to good. Waffle though was very basic poor mix, cream & jam were good. Might be a nice place for just the hot chocolates though and a good chat. Bummer is no wifi.

Four of us were recommended Mokka during a recent visit to Reyjavik and it was just the job. It was a mid-morning visit, so we only had coffees. But both the latte and the cappuccino were both really excellent with a real hit of coffee. It's a small place but has a cosy and relaxed atmosphere and seems to attract a lot of locals, which is no doubt a good sign. Service is not the fastest, if you are in a hurry, but it felt like quality was more important than speed.

I don't understand the positive reviews here. The food is ordinary. Their sandwiches are all made from things that come out of jar or plastic packaging. They just assemble and heat.

There was only 1 person working on the Sunday that we went. Place was busy. How do you expect 1 person to take orders, make the food, and serve it at the same time?

I ended up waiting in line for 30 minutes just to place an order. When my food came it was nothing more than a sandwich with ham, cheese, and bottled asparagus pressed together and toasted.

This place is so overrated.
