We went to Around Iceland to buy a souvenir that was handmade in Iceland instead of mass produced somewhere else.
Around Iceland is more than just a store. They have:
* Tourist information
* A cafe (with good coffee)
* A booking agent for hotels, tours, flights, cars, and restaurants
We looked around in the morning and chatted a bit with one of the clerks. There was no high pressure sales, just pleasant conversation. We left and went about our sight seeing, then later in the day went back and bought an artistic hand crafted souvenir to bring home.
After that we had some more pleasant conversation with a couple of people working there, and ended up staying and visiting with them over coffee. It was pretty hard to resist the desserts - they looked tasty.
Their staff are excellent, and their goods are high quality.
This is an easy place to recommend, and we plan to return there when we visit Reykjavik in the future.
