Owner description: The Aurora Reykjavik is a new educational, recreational and interactive attraction which uses the latest advances in multimedia technology to bring the Northern Lights to life. The centre's focal point is the experience room which uses a large HD projection to immerse visitors in the Aurora Borealis' majestic green glow. The display is 7 meters wide, it is only a short time-lapse video that goes on a loop with relaxing music under it, some people like to sit there for many rounds. You can also read about some old tales, what people thought of the Northern Lights in the old days. These stories are from different countries where you can see the Northern Lights. We do explain the science behind this phenomena, both with a short video and some readings. You can also play with few touch screens, where you can see how the colors of the Northern Lights changes depending on the height of them. You can learn how to adjust your camera to take a photo of the Northern Lights and try out your camera on the Northern Lights photo simulator. We have two screens where you can see two different Northern Lights forecasts. There is also a beautiful souvenir store at the end where you can find handmade Icelandic Northern Lights items, you can also enter there without paying for the entrance to the exhibition. Aurora Reykjavik is a new feature in Reykjavik's blossoming tourism, it is owned by highly motivated young people who are working hard on making it a feature not to miss. When you come and visit please give your self few minutes to fill out the visitor survey and contribute to our mission.

“Interesting, but overpriced”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

I know this is Iceland, but a few pictures plus a time-lapse movie describing the the aurora phenomenon is not worth the admission price of 1,600 kr.

“Not value for money”
Reviewed 1 July 2014 via mobile

Incredibly expensive for an exhibition which is mainly a big screen with a sequence of time lapse photography. About 20 minutes long in total.
The photography is beautiful, but I thought the whole package was a rip off. 1000Kr for a child - come on. Save your money

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

An unassuming building near the Maritime Museum – but don’t be fooled. The first part of the exhibition explains the phenomena of the Northern Lights. This is followed by a short audio-visual display, and then comes the main event – an utterly stunning series of videos which are just mind-blowing.
And there is even free tea or coffee at the end!
Honestly, if you are on a Northern Lights tour, or just wonder what the fuss is all about – come here. You are unlikely to be disappointed.

“Good Museum”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

This is a great way to see the Northern Lights if you don't come at winter or it is not the right conditions. They also have stories and legends about the northern lights from different countries. There is a great video that has lots of different pictures of the northern lights.

“Aurora Reykjavik”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

We had a disappointing time in respect of the real event, but we felt almost compensated by this exhibition. The visual images were excellent and the technical content to describe the phenomenon was much better than I had hoped on entry. It is a relatively small exhibit by many standards, but I was surprised to find my wife and I had spent well over an hour digesting all the material provided.

Picking up on others' comments: value is very good, and I recall that it was enhanced by bonus deals with other features (whale watching excursion?); hospitality was very good with a most pleasing and relaxed cafe and reading material before we left; I can't think where the people went who rated the experience less than very good. It is also well located to make a full day visit to that section of the port, with the maritime museum and other features very nearby.
