Great rooms, nice people, let us check in early, but super, super noisy. We heard all the noise and music and drunks on the street all night long.

Room Tip: Ask for room away from street

Disappointing!

We spent a week and a half touring Iceland, using Icelandic Farm Holidays to arrange the hotels and car. Based on the reviews on tripadvisor.com, we booked our first and last nights in Iceland at Fron.

While the location is great, I didn’t feel that the service was very good—at the front desk, one woman in particular was really rude. We arrived very early in the morning and I was told to come back in an hour or so and there should be a room ready. When I went back, the employee who told me to come back had left, and this woman was rude to me for asking about the room being available. Apparently, because July is peak season and the hotel was quite full and busy, it was a license to be rude to guests! On our last day, I asked for assistance booking our transportation to the airport and recall this too being a bit of an ordeal. The employee didn’t want to be bothered.

The room we were finally given the first time was pretty decent. We were so tired that it’s hard to remember it now! Our room during the last night there was on the top floor and extremely hot. We propped the door open to get some air flowing. It helped some but the room was uncomfortable.

The breakfast was okay. The breakfast room was a bit small though. During busy times, some people couldn’t find tables and I felt like I had to rush in order to give others a chance to sit down and have breakfast.

My husband and I stayed here for a week in June 2011. We were visiting partially for a conference and partially for vacation, and the hotel was perfectly situated. It was a longish walk to Reykjavik University (and the conference), but not unreasonable. And the hotel was otherwise perfectly located on a busy shopping street and close to the harbor, restaurants, bars, etc. The staff at the hotel was exceedingly helpful and pleasant. The room we had was spacious and always clean. Breakfast was fine but nothing special (basic toast, bread, cheese, ham, bananas, cereal). Our room was in the back of a second building, and the wireless internet didn't quite reach our room. We would totally recommend this hotel and would stay here again!

Centrally located on Reykjavik's main shopping street with restaurants and shops at your doorstep, Hotel Fron is a convenient, clean and nice hotel to stay.
It failed to impress me with any particular character but likewise did not disappoint. The breakfast was a cold continental buffet, not particularly good and a little cramped. If you want a special breakfast then I'd recommend the Laundromat Cafe. But overall I think this hotel would please guests and is suited for business travelers and tourists alike.

The hotel is at Laugavegur street, the main shopping street in reykjavik. You have many choices of cafes, restaurants and bars near the hotel! You are next to everything in walking distance! Rooms were fine, please ask the reception to give you a room at the back side of the hotel, because the night, the rooms in front of the hotel at Laugavegur have a little problem with noise from bars. Staff was fabulous!

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Fron from 4/30-5/5. You can't beat the location of this hotel. It's right on one of the main streets in Reykjavik, within walking distance of bars, restaurants, museums, etc. Hotel Fron is made up of three buildings and our room was off the main street, in a courtyard area, so we weren't bothered by any noise.
We arrived in Reykjavik on an overnight flight and the staff gave us a room upon our early morning arrival, and invited us to the hotel's continental breakfast (solid breakfast - cereal, meat, cheese, juice, and coffee).
The rooms aren't fancy but they are clean and our room also had a small sitting area and a kitchenette. The only thing that would keep me from using the Hotel Fron again is that the beds are made up of two single beds you can put together, which means that if traveling with a partner you will either be on two separate beds or one of you will be in the crack between the two beds.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the start & end of our trip to Iceland. The first night, we were in a room looking out at the main street and directly above the restaurant. We were expecting a lot of noise but it wasn't a problem. Our flight arrived at 6:00am, and staff allowed us to check in early at about 8am which was very much appreciated. However, this was probably because it wasn't peak season.

The other night we stayed in a room at the back of the hotel.

We had no problems-- staff was helpful and rooms were clean. The location was excellent. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back.
