“Still our first choice for Reykjavik”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2012

As frequent travellers to Iceland we regular stay in Hotel Fron. Out last stay was July 2012 where we spent two weekends in Reykjavik each side of a trip to Vestmannaeyjar. As always Hotel Fron was out first choice as the rooms are a great size, the location is excellent and the kitchenette is an excellent touch as we like the fridge to store our Skyr and koko mjolk in :)

I always email the hotel directly as they give you an excellent rate, always a big saving on the rack rate and cheaper than hotel sites such as expedia etc. I also always ask for a room out the back as it can be noisy out the front (but what else would you expect during a weekend in summer on the main tourist road in Reykjavik!)

The 2 rooms we had this time were both an excellent size, very clean and had good sized bathrooms and a kitchenette. Breakfast is included and there is a decent choice by Scandinavian standards. If you have an early checkout (as we did one day at 4am) you can still get fruit, yogurt, cereal, juice and coffee which is a real bonus.

Reception staff are friendly and helpful and we will definitely stay there again. At the moment part of Laugavegur (the main road outside) is pedestrainised so you have to get the flybus pick up and excursion pick ups from Hotel Klopp but this is only a short walk away.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for one out the back - bigger and quieter - all have kitchenettes as well

The hotel was in a wonderful location right in the heart of city, which made for a great base for all our travel excursions. The room was spacious for a European room with two beds pushed together. We were surprised to find a small kitchenette which was a great surprise. The room condition was fine. Not especially nice, clean enough, but definitely not spotless, but it was good enough and comfortable, and they cleaned the bathroom and made the bed daily. The hotel staff was very friendly.

Room Tip: email ahead to request early check in and a more quit room

We had not expected a small kitchenette in the room, but were delighted to find one - we had been allocated a studio apartment. We dashed to the nearby supermarket before it could close to lay in some coffee for the filter machine and milk for the fridge. We were sure that on a longer stay we would have made great use of the hob and fridge to bring down food costs in an expensive city.
The location is good for exploring the city, and would suit an independent culture focussed traveller. We enjoyed the cafe bar in the afternoon, and unsurprisingly it transformed into a breakfast room the next day. The breakfast layout was chaotic, and we arrived at a particularly busy time, which made it a stressful beginning to the day. But if we stay again, with a stove, a fridge and a filter coffee machine in the room, we wouldn't need to join the breakfast throng. We would probably stay here again if the opportunity arose.

Room Tip: Ask for a studio apartment, bring some coffee and avoid the breakfast rush.

Hotel is located in main street in a great central location. Our room was a fine one at the back of the hotel but one at the front would likely be a bit noisy. The breakfast was very busy at 7 in the morning and somewhat basic with no hot food simply cold meats and cheese and breakfast cereals. Breakfast started at 7 which seemed a bit late given so many people were leaving the hotel early for organised trips.

Room Tip: Ask for a room a back of hotel rather than overlooking main street.

This is a very good hotel in a perfect location in Reykjavik. The room was very nice with a small kitchen. This hotel is certainly nothing to write home about, but for Iceland it was nice and perfectly located. Anyone who spends too much time in Reykjavik is not well informed as they should be leaving the main city and heading to the country side. Having said that, this is a fine hotel to come home to and their free breakfast is wonderful considering the cost of something similar. Overall, I spent a long time trying to decide on a hotel. The Hotel Fron was exactly what I was expecting and I was pleased. I would have no problem recommending it to others, but book early for Iceland in the summer as it seems to book up very quickly.

The Only thing that is good - is central location. All the rest needs to be really improved.
We are travelling with friends and booked 2 double rooms of the same category. Guess what we received - two completely different rooms- one rather nice 25 sq m, other one - tiny, really like a box for shoes. The shower is not clean, the water is cold and smells. Internet is not working properly. They have login/password system and if you will not ask on the desk -you'll never get the access.
Breakfast is rather poor.
On saturday the music in the nearby bar is sooooo loud that we could not sleap till 5 a.m.
Do not recomment this hotel to anyone.

Stayed at Hotel Fron on my trip to Iceland. Was a great little hotel with decent sized rooms and clean facilities and situated right in the heart of the city. I had to add on an restrain night as my plans to Höfn changed due to poor weather and the staff had no problem and didn't charge me any extra. Staff were also very knowledgeable about their city and country.
