Let's be frank: This place isn't known for it's luxury. That being said it's really not that bad as all the reviews says. but why only 2/5 you ask? well...
The bad stuff:
We sayed here for new years eve and had a slight miscommunication via mail beforehand and ended paying up more than was planned. For the about 6 days we were there was only cleaning at the bathroom, but not the room in general. Lastly, the outside staircase leading to our room (which was on 2nd floor) was iced over, just like the outside the building.
The good stuff:
I will, however, admit that once we put our little e-mail mis-communication behind us, the owner was very friendly and helpful. also the young girl working there, I really liked her *wink*. The rooms was what you would expect, so it's really up to what your standards are. Location great, reallt great!

Stayed a couple of nights here whilst exploring Reykjavik. Room was OK, basic, small, but warm. Free wi-fi worked well. Had a kettle, toaster and fridge to make our own breakfast and, handily, there is a supermarket next door. Up the hill is the big church and down the hill is the main shops and restaurants so it is a great location and not noisy at night. Street parking only, we parked at the church (free). If you want good cheap accommodation this place fits the bill. Reykjavik is an expensive city!

If you are prepared for a basic room with somewhat idiosyncratic facilities, then remind yourself about how cheap it is and its fantastic location, then you will be content. We had plates, cups, cutlery, glasses, a toaster, kettle - and a microwave on so high a shelf that we had to stand on a chair to make our porridge! The geothermal heating meant a cosy warm room in chilly March. And very hot showers, but in a past-its-best shower cabinet that rattled alarmingly. We shared it with the next door room. The owner/manager was rather grumpy and unhelpful but we didn't have many dealings with him. Oh, and we got clean towels daily.

Room Tip: We preferred to have our own kitchen rather than a shared one.

You have booked SHARED facility accommodation..thats why price and standard is lower, than if you would pay for PRIVATE accommodation.

The localisation of this htel is its only advantage : peaceful and next to the main street. Breakfast is not included in the price maybe because of the presence of the kitchen which is very dirty and not very furnished (only one spoon) ! The bathroom is dark and the shower broken. Need modernisation ! Doest desserve its 3 stars

This place is basic, but ok. We had an apartment which was a surprise as I thought it was a hotel, when we arrived on the transfer coach I didn't think much of the outside it's right next door to a supermarket with graffiti on the walls and I must admit my first thought was god where are we staying!! Inside the room was clean, and spacious with a kettle, toaster, fridge, microwave and a computer. The tv had several uk channels.

The people at the hotel were lovely. The only thing I couldn't get on with was the water....it stinks....pure sulphur.....which makes sense for a volcanic island, but once I washed my hair and body twice it was ok, the shower is nice and powerful but the shower curtain is worse than useless and I soon realised why there was a drain in the middle of the bathroom floor.....everything gets soaked!

The location is great it's right at the top of the main shopping streets, for a city centre based hotel it's ideal, and the place isn't too lively so there's no problem with noise.

Overall if you're staying here don't expect too much if your used to luxury you won't like this, if your used to basic accommodation then this place is perfect.

What can I say, me and a couple of friends have lived at this amazing resort of make believe story tales which is advertised as some sort of cheap and great location ´hotel´.
Let´s start of with the ´hotel´ false advertisement, it´s not even a hostel, or a guest house, the rooms are not heated, the walls are made of cardboard as if the old cars from Bulgaria, Lada, and the experience is something out of a thriller movie with customer service non existent, where the landlord comes at 6 in the morning to vacuum and clean on a Sunday.
Is not a joke, the place itself is the joke, and is all on you if you pay the price to be tormented.
By the way, is not as cheap as they make you think, their actually cheaper and better quality places in Iceland for both turists, students and adventurers.
So if you come to iceland, be sure to avoid this ˇdeath trapˇ.

Room Tip: Be ware the landlord, Mr. Ragnar is a very bright and colorful young man with a loving voice and he...

Having seen all the negative reviews of this place I felt compelled to write something. The Adam hotel is remarkably cheap and in a great location. It certainly isn't the Ritz but has all the basics and is perfectly adequate accommodation. And to top it all, the manager is a major Icelandic film star! What more could you want? If you're looking for luxury, this isn't it, but if you're looking for a cheap and convenient place to rest your weary head while you're in Reykjavik, look no further.
