“Top Notch all the way”
Reviewed 19 April 2012

The Hotel Centrum is located in the heart of downtown Reykjavik within walking distance of just about everything. The hotel is not only a great hotel but the staff are A+. They are so helpful and are happy to book anything you need their advice on the tours/excurstions was invaluable. Leon made our stay. We stayed 8 days and would definitely stay there again if we get the chance to return.

Room Tip: Ask about size, we had heard some rooms are very small. Ours was a King and was a very good size co...

Stayed for a long weekend in march, room was clean and pleasant, and altho the bathroom was small it had everything you could need. Did have an issue with how hot the room got at night but it didn't take long to locate and turn down the radiator the next morning. Staff both warm and helpful. Would stay here again.

Excellent hotel for the money. We booked through Expedia and got a double room for around $80 USD. The rooms are small but tidy (almost like the size of a cruise ship room, including the small bathroom and shower). However, you're in Iceland... and the hotel is in the heart of city center; walking distance to virtually anything you need to get to. The staff was very nice and accommodating. I lost my wallet on the flight into Reykjavik and the hotel staff went out of their way to help me track it down. Also, they were very knowledgable about tour options. There was no free wi-fi at the hotel which is weird considering that the entire town had free wi-fi everywhere (including in restaurants), however, there was two computers for public use in the lobby. The breakfast at the hotel is a buffet - kind of pricey (around $17USD per person) for what it was... just some hot food choices (scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage), cold options (yogurt, hard boiled eggs, salmon, cheese), tea and coffee; however, we did eat here almost every morning due to convenience. Overall, Hotel Centrum is an excellent option for the value and I would recommend it!

We stayed here 2 nights at the beginning of our Iceland adventure and 2 nights at the end on returning from north Iceland. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were small, typical European size. The location is within walking distance of nearly everything worth seeing in Rejkavik. The bar in the hotel has the best Fish and Chips in town. The fish servings a a bit light, so order 3 fish and 2 chips for 2 people. For an extra 1000 IK it's well worth it.

Room Tip: We had rooms on the top floor and the 3rd floor, both were very quiet.

The hotel was clean and the staff was nice. The rooms were on the small side, although we had one corner room which was much larger. Very comfortable, with televisions. The hotel was in a great location, just near the asturvoller square. It was right above the settlement museum (also very good), there was a small market next door. To get to the main part of town was maybe 2 minutes walk, so at night it was a bit quieter. There were good restaurants nearby. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are larger.

I stayed here in 2005 and again in 2012. This is a wonderful hotel in an extremely convenient location. The rooms are small and efficient and the building is charming. The staff is helpful. Breakfast and the cafe are good values. The location cannot be beat.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Reykjavik Centrum is a new first class hotel in the heart of the city, opened on April 1st 2005. It is located on one of Reykjavik’s oldest streets, Adalstraeti, in a newly renovated building, the oldest part of which was built in 1764. On each side of it, new buildings have been constructed in the likeness of their historic predecessors. The hotel spreads over all three buildings, and is designed in the style found in Reykjavík around 1900. During its construction, the remains of a Viking longhouse from the Settlement Period were found. Among the finds excavated at the site were Iceland’s oldest human remains, dating from approximately 870 AD.The hotel has 89 rooms, each fitted with modern amenities, such as satellite TV, telephone, Internet access, mini-bar, radio, iron and board, hair dryer, safe and tea & coffee set. All rooms have en-suite bathroom with either a shower or a bath. ... more   less
