Room 211
Stayed here for 7 nights.
Best feature of this place is location- so central to everything. Our Room was shared- one adult and two teenagers. Reasonable space and all clean and new.  Beds comfortable. No view to speak of but a few facilities such as iron and ironing board,  kettle for coffee and tea plus tv. There's an ice machine near the room too. Wardrobe was a bit tiny. Bathrobes and slippers included. Great bath/shower bathroom. Receptionists helpful- they cleared out the minibar as I asked no problem.. To remove temptation. The wood floor is nice though people above us clomping around on theirs getting ready at 6am was a bit annoying. We didn't have breakfast but there are great places really nearby such as Stofan cafe with us quaint soft furnishings and fab coffee. Cafe Paris was also good for breakfast. Both had free wifi.  You're walking distance from the harbour and the funky Harpa building too.
There are two computers free to use-downstairs- one wasn't working and the keyboard was so worn on the other you couldn't see the letters- it was just about ok though. Wifi is charged for 24  hours (1200K) use but it's free in the bar if you haven a drink. lots of places have it for free.
In summary, this is a great hotel and we had a great experience here.

We stayed here for three nights on a whistle trip to Iceland on our way to Canada. The rooms were more than adequate with plenty of storage space. The room was clean, with reasonable amenitites. However, the fact that it was central to reykjavik made it easy to vist all parts of a (albeit small) city and it was extremly close to the central bus station for airport transfers and day trips. The staff for the most part (one very gruff male receptionist) were very helpful in booking tours and helpful when we had left a baby blanket on a bus. Breakfast was expensive compared to other countries but that is Iceland.

Staying in Reykjavik is not about the hotel but about the experiences when touring. If you can get a deal on this hotel, then you will get good value. However I understand that most central hotels will be of this level.

If you want to try the unique Icelandic dishes, I highly recommend the "Spanish" tapas restaurant (turn left out of the hotel and follow the road round the corner). It provides the opportunity to try the many options as smaller dishes (puffin, whale, lamb etc) - I highly recommend icelandic lamb

This is a good but not great hotel in an excellent location. The location is key for two reasons: first, it is far from the noise of the bar and club scene; second, it is easy walking distance to all of the city's attractions--including the bar and club scene!

The rooms are large and comfortable. The heating--very necessary, even in the summer--is quiet and reliable. And the desk staff is courteous.

What keeps the hotel from earning a higher rating is how ordinary the place is. The exterior is wonderful--several old buildings combined to form one residence. But the interior is generic. There is no sense of style or luxury in the rooms, no edge or ambiance. For the relatively high price of this hotel, you'd expect a little more.

We had a wonderful experience in this new, well-designed hotel right at the center of this intriguing city. The hotel has two wings, one is "traditional" interior design, the other one is "modern". We stayed in the "modern" wing which was very nicely designed. Although my wife generally prefers more traditional styles, both of us liked our room. If your reservation does not include breakfast it is definitely worthwhile to pay extra. At this time wi-fi access is available for a small charge. Very friendly, competent staff. Would definitely return!

The location really can't be beat, and unlike some others, we found the front desk staff perfectly lovely. We booked via a tour company, and stayed in junior suites (one night at beginning of tour and one night at end), which are 2 levels. Seems silly yo me to have stairs between my bed and the bathroom, but Room 303 was especially nice, with a balcony out to the street.
It's walkable to everything. Wish wifi was free, but you can walk about 8 minutes to Reykjavik Backpackers for a coffee and have really fast free wifi.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel 2 nights during our vacation in Iceland - the day we arrived and the day before we departed.

We found the staff very helpful. We arrived at 8am on a Sunday morning. They locked up our luggage and told us to help ourselves to breakfast and they would try to get a room ready for us. By the time we finished eating, they had a room ready. Impressive considering they were fully booked Saturday night!

The location is perfect for exploring downtown Reykjavik - just steps from the main square and pedestrian streets. Maybe a 10 minute walk to museums, Lake Tjornin and Hallgrimskirkja.

The rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms large, by Icelandic standards. The only downside is it can be noisy at night - but you are downtown so that is a trade-off.

The central position was the reason we chose this hotel, though this also meant we had problems parking and unloading. We also found the room noisy with very little soundproofing, unlike other reviewers. We were disturbed by other guests, and the street noise which can be expected in Reykjavik at weekends. Otherwise the room was comfortable.
Breakfast was not included and was expensive, so we ate elsewhere.
The reception staff were not friendly or welcoming which was a huge contrast with the other hotels we stayed at in Iceland, and so we won't stay here again even though the central position is hard to beat.

Room Tip: Ask for as quiet a room as possible if you are a light sleeper

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Reykjavik Centrum is a new first class hotel in the heart of the city, opened on April 1st 2005. It is located on one of Reykjavik’s oldest streets, Adalstraeti, in a newly renovated building, the oldest part of which was built in 1764. On each side of it, new buildings have been constructed in the likeness of their historic predecessors. The hotel spreads over all three buildings, and is designed in the style found in Reykjavík around 1900. During its construction, the remains of a Viking longhouse from the Settlement Period were found. Among the finds excavated at the site were Iceland’s oldest human remains, dating from approximately 870 AD.The hotel has 89 rooms, each fitted with modern amenities, such as satellite TV, telephone, Internet access, mini-bar, radio, iron and board, hair dryer, safe and tea & coffee set. All rooms have en-suite bathroom with either a shower or a bath. ... more   less
