“Beautiful hotel, good location and great staff”
Reviewed 27 July 2012

I stayed at 1919 Radisson Blu and my girlfriend and I really enjoyed it. The location is great as is is in the heart of the city near everything you need. The staff was professional and friendly, happy to assist us with all sort of things. The breakfast was good and we also enjoyed having a drink at the hotel's bar.

For those of you traveling to Iceland for the first time, take note and google 5 star hotels in Iceland. There are none. However, we think this hotel in one of the top 5 in the country. Hotel has good solid facilities, clean rooms, good food selection and great location. The staff are very attentive and quickly took care of one minor problem we had and then upgraded us to a suite on our return visit. The only downside is lack of air conditioning which is typical of Iceland. Believe it or not, there are times even in Iceland when you need air conditioning or proper ventilation in the room and some of the rooms can get hot. In summary - highly recommended.

This hotel is conveniently located in downtown reykjavik, yet absolutely calm which was great. Curtains are opaque enough, so we could really sleep; something very precious end of june in iceland!!!

Staff at the front desk were very helpful in proposing/booking immediately good restaurants, and were generaly very helpful. Regret the absence of a bathtub in the room, but the rest was excellent.

Let me begin by saying this hotel is modern and appears to be a half decent hotel. Upon checkign into our room we figured it would be a comfortable clean place to stay. However due to the downtown location it's very loud. We were up until 4:30am with screaming drunk people outside. If you are into partying this is the place to stay. If you are looking for a good night's sleep it isn't.

Also the bathroom is newly rennovated but isnt' being cleaned well. The tiles were so black with mold/mildew that we had to put a towel in the shower. The amentities in the shower are nice, but otherwise nothing to write home about. I would not stay here again due to the noise factor.

We had originally booked the Hilton which is NOT downtown but they were overbooked and placed us here instead. I wished we had of stayed at the Hilton, but it didn't work out that way. So not sure where we would stay again if we go back to Reykjavik. No really good hotels at all to chose from from the sounds of it!!

Dear guest,

thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us.

With our excellent downtown location - comes the sounds of the city. We often forget how different it is for our guests to experience the Reykjavik nightlife. Your right - it really does run into the morning hours!

We offer earplugs at the Front Desk for all guests who need a bit of quiet. Free of charge and certainly helpful on weekend! If you ever come back - do not hesitate to request a "quiet" room. We have some rooms on an inner corridor that are not as exposed to the street noise and sounds of the city.

Best regards,

Frode Jansson

We stayed here for five nights, and the location was great. Free parking at night across the street, walking distance to every major museum, restaurant and the waterfront, and very helpful staff on a number of things we asked for help. The breakfast buffet is great, with plenty of choices from fruit to breads to cereals to eggs and bacon etc., very good coffee and friendly waiters. The rooms are "modern" design, the beds are comfy, the dark out curtains worked great to keep out the endless sunshine. The only quibble was that the bathroom was so small you practically stepped into the toilet on your way out of the shower, and the bathroom counters are so tiny there is no place to put anything down. I would stay here again, it was a very low stress location from which to explore the city and the coasts.

Room Tip: Room 219 has a tiny bathroom, it looks like other rooms would be bigger

What a failure! I'm not sure why things went wrong, but nearly all of the food for an evening meal was poor. It's just as if they've employed a temp chef that can't cook - must be the real chef's night off.

Lasagne was cold and came with the most embarrassing salad and no garlic bread, mozzarella salad was almost non-existent and needed a side salad, and the burger came without salad and something of an imposter of mustard. The "chef" clearly didn't have a clue and I'd never come back again. For such a high class chain, this was really a let down and very embarrassing.

Everywhere in Reykjavik has a free Internet connection, but if you're not a guest, you have to pay. Very clearly behind the times - clearly they don't understand the competition.

One saving grace, Heather was great and deserves a medal. Very apologetic (although not her fault), open and honest. A real credit to any service business.

We could not possibly get a better located hotel in Reykjavik, and on top of that, the staff is so helpful. Persons like Thomas, Eva and Hanna, at front desk and Paulo, at the restaurant, make this a very special location.
Our room was very comfortable, WiFi all around. The only point is that there was no window at the room, only skylight, which made it a little bizarre, but this did not affect the total positive impact of this hotel.
