We stayed for four nights at their other location on the other side of the lake from the original house. At first I was a little confused by the switch, but our room was great. Convenient location, lovely neighborhood and very comfortable stay. I had thought we would have a sink in our room, but sharing the bathrooms worked out just fine. We had a very large room and the beds were great. Breakfast was also good with choices of breads, cheese, cereal, juice and fantastic coffee. Great stay!

We stayed last summer with friends in the two flats of Baldursbra. Evelyne, the French owner was really nice and helpful and dropped our friends off at the Reykjavik airport. The flats were ideal to stay for families with children. We can highly recommend the flats ( the fridge was full and the breakfast was excellent) and the price was for Reykjavik very ok. We have already booked again in Baldursbra for 2011.

Pleasant stay. The owner, (a French lady) was most hospitable and very helpful in booking tours and activities for us etc. She did seem however a little disappointed when we told her that we weren't going out boozing every night - as if we were some kind of lightweights and couldn't hack the pace - she was right. A comfortable night’s sleep except on Saturday when after 12 hours on the booze my friend was convinced that a ghost had pulled the covers off his bed and started screaming like a girl. So I think they may need to get Peter Venkman and the Ghost Busters round. Also if you book the Golden Circle tour you may be lucky like us to get ‘the fat Val Kilmer’ as your tour guide.

baldursbra guesthouse is a great place to stay while in reykjavik. i stayed here for two nonconsecutive nights in august 2010, and it was fine. nothing was amazing or incredible, but rather very comfortable. evelyne, the owner of the guesthouse, is very communicative via email. in person, she is quite nice. i didn't think she was gushy nice, which might throw some people off. at first i thought she was a bit standoffish, but in actuality she is very helpful and knows her stuff.

the rooms are pretty basic but the beds are comfortable, the heaters work well, and i slept well. breakfast is also pretty basic but filling -- several different breads to choose from, cereal, meat and cheese.

the best parts about baldursbra are the relatively affordable price (for overpriced reykjavik) and the convenient location of the guesthouse. everything in reykjavik is quite walkable from baldursbra -- it is only a block or so away from tjornin (the lake) and a few blocks away from the gigantic church.

so, if you are looking for someplace fancy, spend more money and stay elsewhere. but if you are looking for a comfortable friendly place without extra frills, then definitely stay here.

We have stayed at the Baldursbra Guesthouse twice now, once about 10 years ago and most recently this past January (I forgot to write a review then). The guesthouse is easily reached by FlyBus from the airport. FlyBus will take you to their bus terminal and then you transfer to one of several other buses, depending on your final destination. Very easy and affordable! The guesthouse will also make pickup arrangements with FlyBus for your return to the airport.

The guesthouse in general, as well as the rooms, is very simple, but spacious with comfortable beds. You also control your own heat by adjusting the radiator. There are about three rooms on each floor that share a bathroom. The full bath includes a toilet, sink and shower. Next to the full bath is a separate, small WC, with toilet and sink. We never had a problem getting into either. Most rooms also have a small sink and mirror for shaving, brushing your teeth, etc. They also have free Wi-Fi!

The house is very quiet, never much noise and is tucked away in a nice neighborhood near downtown, just down the street from the US Embassy. And it is also very near (about 2 or 3 blocks) from one of my favorite restaurants, Þrír Frakkar, an excellent establishment serving seafood and lamb. Reservations are necessary, the guesthouse can make them for you.

Your hosts are very friendly and always ready to help with advice, directions, tour reservations, and almost anything else you need. A simple breakfast is served downstairs in the morning. Basic meats, cheeses, fruits, cereal, bread and beverages. One night we were out very late to celebrate my birthday, the next morning we slept well past breakfast. When we went downstairs the hosts had kept just enough breakfast out for the two of us to eat! Very nice of them, indeed!

Baldursbra is a great guesthouse, offers an excellent location near downtown and the sights of the city, has wonderful hosts, and all for an excellent price! We will definitely be back!

I stayed for 2 nights and found the place rather boring.. If you want a peaceful place to relax and stuff it is ideal for couples, but if you want to be right in the middle of the city, you dont care about sharing a room (thats how i meet people) then for less money you will have more fun at Reykjavik Backpackers where i moved to.

Also, i came back to the baldursbra on the second day to find the hostess coming out of my room and she seemed nervous to see me- she hadnt tidied ..so why was she in there?

AMAZING CITY THOUGH!
