“Lovely stay in the city centre”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

We stayed here for 3 nights in April and found this hotel to be centrally located at a reasonable price. Another bonus with this hotel is that breakfast is included in the price. Our room was cleaned each day we were there with fresh towels and the room was warm. Staff at the hotel were friendly and happy to give advice on tours and you can book tours either though the reception or at the tourist information next door. There are many places to eat nearby the hotel, some of which were expensive, prices generally starting at around £15 pp and going up depending on what you order, Tour wise I can recommend the blue lagoon trip and the Golden Circle day trip, both fascinating and must in my opinion. Make sure you take warm clothes, we visited in April and still had heavy snow storms at times. Getting from the airport to the city centre is easy, you can book a return ticket in the arrivals lounge at the airport either to the bus terminal or directly to your hotel.

We were originally booked at the Centerhotel Klopp, but had some issues there with our room and we were moved to Plaza. We were much happier with this hotel – it seems like it was a step up from the Klopp. The room (we were on the 4th floor) was nice, clean and quiet and the shower was great (had great water pressure). It is in the center of town, by the old harbor and the main shopping area. There is a grocery store right next door – but it is quite expensive. If you walk about a block or so, there is another grocery store and the prices are much lower. Most of the staff was helpful – they even contacted the tour companies that we already had booked to advise them that we had moved hotels. The breakfast was great, served from 7am to 10 am and there is a nice selection of food (ham, cheese, breads, cereal, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juice, eggs, sausage and bacon). We were not expecting this type of breakfast – when we have traveled to Europe in the past, the breakfast didn’t seem to have such a large selection so we were quite happy with the breakfast.
One night, we were getting ready to go out for dinner and the fire alarm went off. We were waiting for the elevator and there is a door that closes, blocking access to the elevators. So we took the stairs, which led to the doors to the building next door to the hotel. The main door was locked and we could not get outside. So we went back in, and it actually took us a good 5 minutes to be able to get back in the hotel building. Had this been a true fire, this could have been terrible as there was no way to get outside. We told staff at the front desk and he seemed like he could care less. He really didn’t care and said he would let whoever it is know – but we doubt he ever did, just because he seemed like it was no big deal.
All in all, I would stay at this hotel again primarily because of its location.

Stayed here for four nights in late March in one of the rooms across the bridge on the third floor. The room was OK, but the bathroom was tiny and the walls paper thin. Listened to the neighbours snoring, breathing and enthusiastically visiting the toilet. Also, everytime somebody walked by the room it sounded like a pack of drunken wildebeest on a stampede. The breakfast had a very small selection of food, and thimble-sized glasses. Apparently they are not too concerned with dehydrated guests...
Friendly and helpful staff at the reception though.

Basic 3 star hotel with an excellent location. Typical of a European hotel, rooms were slightly smaller than I would have preferred. But they were clean and comfortable. Best feature of this hotel is it's location. Close to everything. Grocery store next door was a plus.

the hotel is in the center of the old town between the old harbor and the main shopping street. All of the restaurants, shops and bars are walkable from the hotel. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We arrived early in the morning after a flight from the US and they had a room ready for us. The warm breakfast is great, lots of variety and plenty of food. The hotel bar has a happy hour (5 - 7 pm?) that is very popular after a long day. Essentially everyone in the hotel gets up early in the morning, has breakfast, gets picked up by a tour company in the lobby and is gone for the day. This is one of a set of hotels called "CenterHotel" that are differentiated by their location, in this case on the main "Plaza".

Room Tip: there is an "old" part and a "new" part to the hotel, old part does not face the...

Perfect location as all Reykjavik attractions, and some great restaurants, are within an easy walking distance. The included breakfast is fantastic. There is the usual continental choices (bread, cheese, ham, croissants, cereal etc.) but also bacon, sausages and eggs and amazing homemade cookies and granola bars. Service was good throughout our trip. The room and bathroom were modern, clean and very comfortable.
