“Its just...OK”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

My company uses this hotel, so I decided to stay. There is NO parking if you have a rental car. You have to park in a pay garage about 1/2 block away. That's OK. The room is small but clean. The bathroom is also small but clean. What I didn't like was the curtains do not block the sun! At 0430 in the morning, the sun is streaming through the curtains. I had a mask but that's uncomfortable. With the sun up for long hours, the hotel is also in the final approach path to the downtown airport. That's a noise maker. The fire alarm pull fell off the wall on the 2nd day. How...who knows! I took a picture and showed it to the desk clerk. When I left 5 days later, it was still hanging by the wires. That's not very comforting. The breakfast was the same thing every day but it was good and tasty. The wifi worked very well and no issues with that. The staff is outstanding. Will I stay there again? Well, the jury is still out but I think I would. Maybe another Centerhotel away from the final approach. Curtains to block the sunlight would be really good!

We've booked this hotel for our two last nights on a 14 day roundtrip of Iceland. The "superior double room" was average at best with holesin the wall and terribly worn. The bathroom is obviously designed by monkeys as a shower leaves water all over the floor.

But worst: the hotel is placed at a city square with music playing all night, cars driving by, people shouting. I could not get any sleep. If you book here, make sure to get a room on the inside of the building. This was just horribe experience.

We booked online and paid 180 euros for 2 people for 4 nights including breakfast in a standard room.
The hotel is a great location in the city centre with everything including bars, restaurants, shops, churches, the waterfront and harbour within walking distance. The tourist information centre is next door. All excursions pick up from the front of the hotel.
The rooms were small but adequate with everything you need. They were clean and had all necessary amenities including a kettle and mini fridge..
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was good, plenty of choice and fresh. Happy hour in the hotel was between 5 and 7 and drinks were 5 euros for wine, not bad compared to bar and restaurant prices in Reykjavik. We also visited the sister bar at the sky plaza hotel which had great views.
I would definitely stay here again and recommend it.

Good value hotel in a central position in the old town within an easy walk of restaurants, bus terminal from airport and the city centre.
Rooms are small but well organised, quiet and warm. Staff were helpful and there was space to sit and wait for trips and for friends. WiFi worked. Buffet breakfast gave a wide choice and was noisy and busy but well organised. There could be a delay at the front desk due to large parties arriving but this was not really a problem and staff were friendly and efficient.
We were at the back of the hotel so had no view but it was quiet.
The central position of the hotel was the main plus point for us.

Firstly, I would like to dispel some of the negative comments that have been made about this center city hotel. Keep in mind that you are right off the main shopping, eating and drinking area. Next, you are right above the main plaza of the city, hence the name of this hotel.

Yes, the room was small, but we are not overly large folks and, therefore, it was fine for us. The room was clean and more than comfortable. It did have a mini fridge, if one so desired to take advantage of this feature. There was also the makings for coffee & tea.

Breakfast, which is included in the price of the room, is, as stated previously, nothing really special. I even went out for breakfast one morning, and it was the same thing except for the American pancakes which I indulged in for one morning as a treat to myself. Otherwise, we both ate breakfast at the hotel. Hot & cold cereals, meat, cheese, lots of bread, yogurt, etc. The usual European fare.

The staff was very pleasant and more than helpful. The lobby was quite pleasant while waiting for someone or for your pick up for your excursion. There is even a small bar where one can have a beer or wine or even a soft drink.

Would I stay here again? You bet! As some pictures indicated much needed repairs, I looked long and hard to find something wrong in our room and could not! I really was quite concerned about some of the negative comments the night before we left for this trip, but my fears were gone the minute we entered the room.

I am so glad we chose this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms, even on the upper floors, which are directly above the plaza will be a bit noisy. However, t...

The hotel is clean, breakfast is fine. I did not spend too much time inhouse.
The location is just perfect. Lots of restaurants and bars around. Basically the hotel is located at one end of the main shopping area. There are two supermarkets nearby - not the cheapest, but one of them open 24/7.
Do not see it as a luxury hotel. But it is a perfect base to explore Reykjavik and Iceland.

We stayed here for 3 nights in February and couldn't fault it. The staff were friendly and helpful, The room ( with the wall view) was clean and warm,( you dont spend much time in your room in such an amazing city) bathroom was nice and breakie plentiful. .. the hotel is in a brilliant location which made the city very explorable on foot. We fully intend to stay here again when we make it back to Iceland.
