We stayed there 4 nights and it was great. We were a little surprised when we booked the double room and got twin beds pushed together to make the double but when we spoke to the reception about it we were nicely moved to a room we have requested, no fuss at all. And that was great so the customer service was brilliant, very helpful on recommending trips and attractions. The hotel is in the centre of the town, close to shops, restaurants or sigtseeing attractions, we were visiting places in Reykjavik by foot :) Highly recommend the Reykyavik Excursions for the Golden Circle & the Walk on the Glacier tours, you will not regret that, it is Amazing :) Just prepare yourself that your wallet will suffer big time as Reykjavik is really expensive...
Have a nice stay!! :)

Just come back from a 5 night stay at the hotel plaza Reykjavik, and what a fantastic stay it was!

The hotel is in the centre of Reykjavik close to the harbour, main shopping streets, restaurants and numerous attractions. Additionally, tour operators will pick you up from the hotel for those trips outside of the city.

If you want somewhere close to the action this is the place to be!

The room was clean and cosy with comfortable beds, great ensuite and tea and coffee making facilities (something you maybe grateful for in expensive reykjavik).

Additionally, take advantage of the hotel breakfast as it offered plenty of choice, was continental in style and was delicious. It definitely set me and my partner up for the day.

A lot of reviewers have commented on the hotel being noisy - we did not have this problem and we stayed during the busy easter holiday weekend. In fact we found the city to be very peaceful on the whole - there is hardly any noise from traffic, local businesses etc.

I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel or Iceland as a holiday destination.

We had a great time and hope you do too!

i would give this hotel 2* - i stayed at the hotel for a week. first two nights couldnt sleep because of drunk people screaming at each other right in front of the hotel. i had to go downstairs to talk to the staff because a woman was wailing right at their door and they had not doen anything about it until i warned them. they are so used to it.
teh hotel is right above three busy restaurants. you can hear tables being moved, dishes washed. we asked to be moved to another room, which they politely allowed. we were moved to a room, where if you step on bathroom tiles - water comes right underneath. funky smell. staff was not informed about restaurants, busses, malls.
nice breakfast room and good breakfast choice, though.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hotel Plaza during our three-day stay in Reykjavik. What drew us to this hotel were the price and the location. Even after the economic downfall, prices in Reykjavik are still somewhat high (from the perspective of someone holding American dollars), but the prices at this hotel were fantastic (we paid the same amount for three nights at this hotel as we did for a decent hotel outside central Paris for one night).

The hotel is located right at the city centre's square, within walking distance of restaurants and shops (the tourism office is right next door). There is a bar in the hotel, but we opted to try the local bars (on the weekends, the hotel bar gets packed). We saw signs for a breakfast room, but we did not partake in it if breakfast were available. A few doors down from the hotel is a bakery as well as a local market, so we had our breakfast meals there.

Our original room was on the second floor and in the corner, providing great views of the city square. However, minutes into settling into our room, we realized the windows are nearly paper-thin and we could hear street conversations almost word-for-word. We asked to be moved to another room away from the street, which they did. Our second room overlooked a side street and we had no more noise issues, although the windows were significantly smaller and views were minimal.

The hotel staff were friendly and fluent in English. There is a computer in the lobby where one could check mail. It appears that the bathroom sizes vary; in our first room, the bedroom area was large but the bathroom was small (the shower was very small). However, when we moved into the quieter room, the bedroom area was small but the bathroom seemed to have made up for the bedroom size decrease. Everything was clean. Warning: hot showers have a strong sulfur smell; don't be alarmed; it's normal for that area.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Plaza; the great location is what made the stay wonderful. Reykjavik is a very small city and everything is within walking distance, but this hotel has prime location and we would gladly stay there again.

We stayed at the Plaza for 5 nights and took the plunge and booked a superior room. I have to say if you can manage it do it.

The room are lovely with a great views of the city and mountains across from the harbour. The only down side is that there isn’t a bath which for me wasn’t a problem but was for my partner.

I agree with the comments of cfhalliday the hotel is central and is close to many restaurants and bars. I must admit we knew Iceland was expensive but was still surprised at the cost. The breakfast was good and had scrambled egg, sausages and bacon, along with the usual continental style.

It took a time or two to get used to the slight smell from the hot water in the shower, but I believe this is common in all hotels due to the way they heat there water. There was also a very large LCD TV in the room were you could get BBC ITV Scotland if you wanted to. Again cfhallidat has it right keep away from the mini bar. We actually bought Pringles at home for snacks, and visited the duty free at Manchester airport were we bought a bottle or two for a tipple before we went out.

If I had to pick on anything that let it down it would be the bed, I am not a lover of soft beds and pillows, the one we had certainly was, but it never interfered with my sleep to much but 5 nights would have been my limit.

We never drank nor eat at the hotel other than breakfast but, the free internet in reception was handy, also the free WIFI in your room.

To be honest if we go back we would probably return to the Plaza, and have no hesitation in recommending it.

I would be happy to answer any question

Dave

Stayed 5 nights and have little cause for complaint. Buffet style breakfast sets you up for the day. Most rooms have walk in showers (rooms with a bath on request) and you will not be disappointed - gallons of hot, hot water. Avoid the mini-bar if you can unless you want to pay their prices. Snickers bar for £1.50, whisky miniature £5.70! Top tip is to buy your beverages at the airport upon arrival. You can get miniatures for about 299 kr (£1.48) Only minus points were for powdered milk to go with tea/coffee. Check out the small supermarket a few steps away; has a little cafe on the side with coffee and pastries.

Great little hotel, right in the centre of Reykjavik. Some rooms have been updated and others haven't, and at first, we were given a small, old room. After a quick chat with reception, we were upgraded to a much bigger, more modern room with views over the plaza. The hotel hasn't got a restaurant, so breakfast is a buffet, but its nice and fresh. The bar area is nice and we spent some time every evening in the bar.

Overall, a good hotel made great by the location.
