I have waited a couple of days to review this Penthouse Apartment as I wanted to process what I actually thought of it, as opposed to my gut reaction. I booked it for myself and my family through booking.com and paid over £1200 for 4 nights in late August. I booked it because the website said it had a balcony and a BBQ as well as other features which seemed attractive. We sarrived late on and were shown to the apartment which has no balcony and I was informed that none of the Apartment K apartments have a balcony or a BBQ. First of a few problems. The apartment is on the top floor and has some views of the harbour through the small windows. The 2 bedrooms have only a large "bed" in them as you cannot stand up in them apart from at the door as they are in the eaves. The beds are large but are actually just mattresses on breeze block. Comfortable nevertheless. You have to live out your suitcase in one of the rooms as there is no furniture apart from the bed. The kitchen was ok as part of the living rooms but major issue with sockets as you could only have either the kettle or the toaster on at once as the second socket is up high above a shelf. There were only 3 cups in an apartment for 6.
There was a major problem in the bathroom so anyone with any mobility issues beware. The booking.com website lists Japanese wooden tub, shower, bathroom , toilet which led us to believe that the tub- 4 foot high with a 3 step wooden ladder to access it - was an extra and there would be a separate shower. Not to be. One of our party could not get into the tub as they were afraid they would fall from the ladder so had to wash in the basin for 4 days. Luxury?? NOT! there is also only one toilet which for 4 people was an issue at times. There was no blind on the front door as the fitting was broken so people could see in. One of the door handles was hanging off and there was a very unsafe dip in the entrance area which was dangerous . Also, if you stepped back to look in the fridge, you had a step at your back which was also dangerous.
We phoned booking,com to complain and they emailed the company who said there was nothing they could do and would not contemplate compensation as they said the misleading description was the booking.com staff's fault. Booking.com have not yet responded to my written complaint although they did act quickly , if ineffectively ,when I phoned them from the apartment. The apartment is well located and if it was half the price and had a separate shower, I would be recommending it . As it is , I feel we were totally mislead and we were ripped off. I cannot in all conscience recommend it to anyone. One member of staff resigned while we were there as it seems he was fed up with the number of complaints he was left to deal with. Significant. One of the bedrooms had an unacceptable level of noise from local clubs which are open well into the wee small hours. Take your earplugs, if you go.
