“Perfect except for the bathroom wall”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

We stayed at hotel thingholt for six nights last month for our honeymoon. The hotel was amazing, except for the glass wall that separates the bathroom from the rest of the room. I did read about this in other reviews but decided we could deal with it. I'm glad we did, although it was a bit awkward for us newly weds, the rest of the expense was great. Delicious breakfast, helpful and friendly staff, and an optional location to explore Reykjavik from. We did experience some loud partying nose and music on Saturday night that seemed to come from street behind from about 11pm until 4am.

Centerhotel Thingholt's a great boutique hotel, in a great location close to shops, restaurants and bars in the centre of Reykjavik and only a short walk from the harbour.
The room's are of a modern design, but still comfortable and bright. Our room had a bathtub by the bed, and a seperate shower room behind a frosted glass partition.
There's a nice bar area near reception which has happy hour between 5-7 (I'd recommend downloading the Reykjavik Grapevine 'Appy Hour' app for a list of other happy hours if you're keen to carry on!). The bar also doubles up as the breakfast area, and there's a good and plentiful breakfast buffet there each morning.
After reading other reviews we were a bit concerned that it would be noisy, and we did hear a bit of noise from the club at the end of the street on Friday and Saturday nights, but it really wasn't an issue and not enough to keep us awake after a busy day of sightseeing!
The staff at the hotel were friendly and efficient, helping us to book a northern lights trip and chased up our tour company when they were late with the pick ups.
All in all, a great stay and we would happily return the next time we're in Reykjavik.

This is a fantastic hotel in a very central location. Just a few steps away from the main shopping street in Reykjavik and minutes from a selection of different restaurants and cafes.

The hotel itself looks quite nondescript from the outside but inside it is very design led. It has a small bar by the reception which also doubles up as the breakfast room in the mornings. The bar offers a daily happy hour between 5pm and 7pm where a large beer can be purchased for 500ISK. There is a variety of hot food, pastries, fruit and continental style items available for breakfast and this is served buffet style. We found the selection very good and the staff were quick to replace items which were running low.

Our room was very comfortable and a decent size. You should be aware that the bathroom is built into the room with frosted glass panels which could feel a little intrusive to some. We had a walk in shower rather than a bath but this suited us fine. The beds were very comfortable and the duvets extremely warm. There was plenty of storage and hanging space available. There was a good sized flat screen TV mounted to the wall that only shows English channels (including BBC1, BBC2 & ITV).

Finally, I must mention how great the staff were. Every single person we encountered was friendly and helpful. In particular, Clara was extremely helpful in organising us to be picked up and taken to a car hire firm outside of the city centre. Everything was done with minimal fuss and with a genuine desire to help. If only all hotels could adopt this mentality....

In summary if you are planning a visit to Reykjavik, please try the Centerhotel Thingholt - you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Room 206 was a twin room on the second floor and was very quiet.

We are staying at the Thingholt for 4 nights and have to say we are very impressed. We have room 305 which is in the rear of the property, so although we were here over the weekend the noise from the local bars was not too bad and slept right through.

The room is quite large and has disabled facilities in the bathroom, so as a result the bathroom and shower are large too. My sister has room 304 which is quite a bit smaller.

The rooms are all very modern and my only gripe is the pendant light is set at such a height you can't walk passed it without banging your head on it!

Breakfast which was included is fine, plenty of choice, we always found space to sit the 4 of us together.

Reception staff have been very helpful and always pleasant, they even tride to move things round for my Sister as she really wanted a twin, but the booking agent forgot to pass this on to the hotel. They did find a twin but it was on the front so she stopped where she was.

The location of this hotel is excellent just 5 seconds walk to the main street. An easy stroll down to the harbour and its many restaurants. Can be noisy at the weekend, but this was not a problem for us as we were all exhausted at the end of each action packed day, Well recommended.

Room Tip: Choose a back room if possible

We had a short 3 nights stay at Centerhotel Thingholt and their location really helped us in easy navigating the place. It is just next to the shopping street which also lead to many restaurants around. Very convenient and hotel staffs are really helpful.

The rooms are tastefully done. But I only have 1 small comment to make, that is, the hotel is near to many pubs/clubs and it can be quite noisy in the night when the party-goers get out to the streets in the wee hours. Icelandic people can really party!!

Breakfast is delicious and variety of food and beverage are not bad. Our overall experience with this hotel has been good and there's nothing bad to say.

This is a great boutique hotel on one of the main street. A great location every thing is in walking distance. Our room was a good size with a very comfortable bed, the show was a large walk in and the water did not smell of sulphur. The breakfast was good, if lacking a little on variety. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although it is paid on street parking, it was easy to find a parking space and it cost 960 ISK for 24 hours parking so was not expensive. Would be my first choice hotel on my next visit.

We loved the hotel, the location was perfectly situated steps off the main shopping district, the breakfast buffet was awesome, the staff was extremely helpful in answering questions, both via email before we arrived, and arranging transportation to the Blue Lagoon once we arrived, the spaces were clean, and the heat in the room was powerful, on demand...

My only issue with the room was that the overhead light was so low I bumped my head (I'm low-average height) on it twice trying to get around the bed, and the TV was bracketed on the wall next to the bed in such a way that I hit that as well...

These can be fixed with some consideration. Everything else was great!
