“Clean, modern, great location”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

This hotel has a unique contemporary decor. Upon entering the hotel, you walk down the stairs and reach the Front Desk. The room that we stayed in was of decent size but it didn't have much of a view. Our view was pretty much of the building across the street, which wasn't a big deal for us. The bathroom included the sink area and shower, but the tub was located right next to the bed. Interesting setup. Breakfast selection was pretty good. The location is great as it is only a short walk away from everything. There are restaurants, cafes, and shops nearby. It was also a nice walk to the Hallgrímskirkja. Actually, we didn't really take any public transportation when we were in the city. We only took the bus from the airport to our hotel, and then we were picked up by our car rental company prior to venturing outside of Reykjavik.

Upon our arrival, we thought we must be at the wrong place because of the shoddy exterior. However, once we crossed the threshold, the lobby was artisy and modern feeling. The front desk manager, Clara, was super helpful and attentive. We'd booked a larger room and arrived too early to get in and opted to pay the same rate for a smaller room. We made this decision after viewing the two rooms and deciding we liked the location of the smaller room and the availability to settle right in after a long flight. The room was clean enough, towels small and in scarce supply, bed was short, sheets not comy, shower crazy small and bathroom virtually impossible to use for makeup application. The shower was old and needs attention. Overall, it was ineffective as water leaked out everywhere. BUT the coupe de gras was the fact that we were in light filled (20 hours) Iceland and the black out curtains were so shabby that we had to rig them by putting heavy things on them to try and keep the light out. Needless to say, we left the hotel exhausted!

Bottom line: we checked to see what the room we were staying in would have cost and it was $380. GROSSLY overpriced hotel (we paid over $400 because we were supposed to have the larger room). We both agreed that the price should've been $125-150. Normally I'd give a location like this a 1* but the staff was exceedingly gracious and it was clean enough.

Very nice hotel in the heart of the city. Great staff and good breakfast.
The room was tiny but very confortable and cozy.
I spent there four nights and will be back when I return to this amazing country.

I stayed in this hotel on a two day business trip to Reykjavik and I can recommend this hotel to both business as well as leisure travelers. Although I stayed here on business, my colleague brought his girlfriend and they also had a great time over the weekend.

The location of the hotel is slap bang in the middle of town and everything is in walking distance. You have shopping, museums, bars, restaurants and clubs all on your doorstep.

the modern interior is very nice and the decorating was done in a very tasteful way, but if you like traditional hotels with antique furniture and flowery wallpaper, this is not a hotel for you.

The lobby is very cosy and leads into a bar and restaurant with trendy chill-out music. The food in the restaurant is good with a good selection of international as well as Icelandic dishes.

Finally, the service is absolutely great. The people were so friendly and helpful and they take the time when you want them to, but they also realise when you are in a hurry.

I spend a lot of times in hotels and I don't often write reviews, but I just felt that after this experience it would only be right to submit a review.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper it might be better to have a room that faces to the back as there can be...

A very nice hotel in the centre of Reykjavik, it is a perfect location for visiting all that the city has to offer. We found the Hotel staff extremely helpful and friendly, we arrived very early 01:30am, we wanted a bath not just a shower in our bathroom, our room was changed without any problems. we booked a standard room, these are quite small, not enough space to fully unpack for two people. The bed was very comfortable, we like a firm mattress and a queen size bed. The buffet style breakfast was fantastic, the hot food was hot! the continental was fresh, the selection great. The decor in our room was tired, especially the bathroom, however, we found the hotel to be very clean and tidy. we had an early departure, the hotel provided coffee and pastries, we would use the hotel again, however, we would spend a little more on an upgrade for a larger room.

Room Tip: You will need to up-grade to get a decent size room

A good hotel in a great location convenient for all the main tourist spots as well as shops and restaurants. The hotel is a little quirky which we love but then the whole of Reykjavik is like that. The standard room we had for the first night was fine . We upgraded to one with a bath which just happened to beside the bed. The loft room we also looked at was great but with no bath the convenience of being able to hop out of bed and straight into having a soak without touching the floor was too big a pull. The staff and particularly Clara could not have been more helpful: not only with internal hotel queries but also with external tours which the Icelandics have down to a fine art. We did all the usual well known trips including the Blue Lagoon and golden circle. Two big surprises and delightful ones in places which we don't normal seek out was to the Lutheran church on the hill that dominates the skyline of Reykjavik. The trip up the tower is a must. The other trip was the behind the scenes tour of the Harppa concert hall. What a magnificent place! A truly stunning building . Loved Reykjavik despite the grey skies and loved the Thingholt.

Room Tip: The standard room is basic but fine. The loft was good and not much cost for as upgrade. The one...

Great location, good sized rooms, very friendly and helpful staff, good service and a perfectly acceptable breakfast buffet with a good choice of hot and cold dishes. The beds were comfy and the walk-in shower (no bath in standard rooms) had plenty of space. Decor is a dark Nordic midwinter motif but quite pleasing if you like dark brown and '70s retro chic.

As has been mentioned by other reviewers, this hotel is in the heart of Uptown Reykjavik, which is great for walking to all the principal sites of interest, but a tad noisy with good-natured revellers in the early hours. This is to be expected of any city centre location but I have to say that most hotels similarly situated would make a better attempt at noise insulation. The window of our room overlooked the street and did nothing to mute the sounds of even normal conversations outside. There is also a morning symphony of delivery and cleaning trucks around 0700. This can be remedied: I have stayed in hotels on busy streets in London but still had a good night's sleep through the simple expedient of decent double or triple glazing. We heard other guests complaining of sleepless nights so this really needs to be addressed by the hotel owners. Cheap foam earplugs worked for us.

The lobby area is spacious, comfortable and well-supplied with reading material. There is a good free wifi service but this didn't seem to have the puff to make it up to the second floor where our rooms were. Although comfortable the lobby is afflicted - and I use the word consciously - by a muzak loop comprising blues and jazz favourites, as well as some more idiosyncratic Johnny Cash numbers. Well, they were favourites on Day 1 but quickly palled. Surely the manager has more than a couple of dozen songs on his or her iPod? I'm surprised the staff can stand it.

There's plenty of pretty cheap parking very close, or free if you don't mind walking a few hundred metres.

Overall a good place to stay, at very fair prices by Icelandic standards. Try to get a room facing away from the street if you can. We didn't try the spa so can't comment on that.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the building get booked early so don't leave things to the last minute.
