A bit off the beaten path from the old town area, but worth the trip to it (by bus or a quick walk), this museum is very informative of Iceland's history. Plus, it is not a large museum so you can get through all of it in under 3 hours and pretty much see all it has on display. A great place to start your visit.

This was a very interesting and informative museum, whose location in central Reykjavik makes it very accessible. Helps set a visit to Iceland in context.

Well done displays. Nice layout and traffic flow. Not crowded. A bit expensive like everything in Iceland.

We joined a museum tour given by a docent and highly recommend this. This museum covers so much of Iceland`s history from ancient to modern in an attractive and accessible way.

We visited the museum after having travelled around Iceland with a tour guide for a week and the museum nicely consolidated all that we had learned in the previous week.

It is well laid out and provides eye catching displays that are informative and interesting.

They even had a reading room with a chess board so we were able to take some time out and sit down and relax with a game of chess between floors at the museum. Definitely worth setting aside a couple of hours to visit this museum.
