This was out 3rd trip to Iceland and second time at this hotel. Very well located and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and most have a great view of the harbor. Easy to walk to all restaurants and main streets. We would definitely stay there again or at the sister hotel the Thingholt.

Room Tip: Corner rooms or any room facing the harbor.

The 'vik' part of the name 'Reykjavik' means 'bay' and that is what you have a view of from the better rooms of this hotel (not all - some are out the back and overlook a car park). The Sky Bar on the top floor does not do full meals as such but the open sandwiches are plenty. Alcohol is expensive as it is everywhere in Iceland -- the locals tend to drink coffee rather than booze. The staff at this hotel are attentive especially the front desk staff who work long shifts and yet remain friendly and approachable.
The only trouble I had with the room was the almost complete lack of storage space - I appreciate that most stays in Reyk.are only for a few days but even so you do need drawers and so on. There was a 'hospitality tray' of tea and coffee, unusual outside the UK or areas catering mainly to British travellers. There is also a minibar but this has the usual problem of expensiveness - this is not the fault of the hotel though, post-Crash Iceland makes much of its money from tourists and their consumption habits.
There is also a 'health centre' in the basement which has a steam room, sauna and hot tub.
We did not see the Northern Lights on our trip as the sky was overcast throughout but there is much else to see and do in this country.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea. Others face a car park.

Perfect place to start a trip in Reykjavik, allowed us to check in and have breakfast for a small fee. Great location on the harbor and the Sky Bar has a great view for breakfast and sunset view!would stay there again!

Not the best from the outside but position wise and views it is superb. Rooms are good, the only slight downside is the walls are a bit on the thin side and the doors are thick and heavy, result, bit noisey at certain times. The Sky bar on the top floor has superb views of the mountains and sea and is also very friendly with the staff being very attentive. Food was good but menu is a bit small. There is also an outside terrace. The location is very good to,near to harbour and the main shopping area. Would definately go back.

Room Tip: Obviously sea view would be good.

we stayed for 3 nights from the 12th March. within an hour of landing at Reykjavik we saw the Northern Lights! they started whilst we were on the bus but once we got to the hotel we dumped our bags in our room and then raced up to the 8th floor to the Sky bar and roof balcony where we could go outside and watch this spectacular display. Magical! this must be the best hotel in Reykjavik for seeing the Northern Lights- right by the harbour, fantastic views accross the water to the mountains and less light polution than a more central location for seeing the lights.
the hotel's location was central enough and a short walk from the main centre and the old harbour. loved the 8th floor bar and restaurant and the best way to appreciate the fantastic mountain and sea views whilst having a good breakfast.
our room was a standard one but very comfortable, a good size and an amazingly large bed! my only regret was a wet room and not a bath. but my partner prefers showers so he was happy.
enjoyed Reykjavik- amazing art galleries and the Museum of Iceland is a good place to start any visit to Iceland to get a sense of the place. Harpa too with its weird architecture and fish-scale like glass is another place to spend time in just admiring the building. they do very good cake here too. we are now hooked and have planned to come back and tour round the whole island- but in the summer.

Room Tip: don't stay on the ground floor but the middle floors are quiet (we were on the 3rd floor). ask f...

The hotel is deceiving from the outside, it appears a little bleak but far more pleasant inside. Reception has comfortable seating although I don't think it's used for people to relax in, I think it's just where people wait for the excursion busses. The room was very comfortable, we had a standard room but it had everything that you need In fact I was surprised that there was a mini bar, tea & coffee making facilities, iron & board. Bathroom was fine, wet room style with hairdryer. Very comfortable beds, clean and very warm. The sky lounge is lovely even when the weather isn't. Happy hour is worth making as drinks can be expensive out and about although if you plan it we'll you could move between bars to co inside with different happy hours.
Reception were very helpful making restaurant reservations and providing adaptor plugs when needed. The spa was ok could perhaps do with a little mood music
Location is fantastic, a few minuet walk to town so very close to restaurants and bars. Breakfast was great buffet style with scrambled egg, sausage and bacon. Different bread options with plenty of fresh fruit, yoghurts and juices. On the morning of check out the had croissant, coffee and juice which was lovely.

stayed for 3 nights at the end of March - the sun shone and we saw the northern lights!
central location and good view out to sea and the mountains.
compact room and open rail & shelves for clothes. small shower room (wet room so remove items you would like to remain dry.
Great views from the top floor bar / breakfast area.
If you are here to see something of Iceland its more than fit for purpose - the reception staff are friendly & helpful.
enjoy.

Room Tip: ask for sea view
