My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights while we visited Iceland. Originally we were only scheduled to stay for one. Unfortunately, our airline lost our luggage, inclusive of all our camping gear, and we were forced to stay another night. The staff was friendly and extremely accommodating given our last-minute change of plans. They allowed us to stay in the same room and for the same rate. As our trip neared its end, we decided to come back to the city early and once again, 4th Floor was graciously able to accommodate our reservation and honored the originally booking price for our last two nights in the city.

We stayed in the "Economy" apartments across the street and they were MORE than sufficient. Our room included a full kitchen, television and bathroom. While it is a very "no frills" establishment, the point of staying there was not to spend a large quantity of time in our hotel room, it was to be in a decent location, close to the sights and sounds of Reykjavik. You should not expect to walk into a top-of-the-line, modern room. This place provides you with the necessities... and that includes breakfast each morning. If you want a five-star hotel, you will pay five-star prices. And in a place like Reykjavik, that means hundreds of dollars per night. We did our research and knew what to expect. I believe 4th floor is "as advertised".

In terms of location, it's quite central. If you want to get anything close to a good night's sleep on a Friday or Saturday, a place like 4th Floor is where you'll want to be. In other words, you do NOT want to be on the main drag when runtur is happening. It's loud and continues into the early morning hours. 4th Floor is located just off Laugavegur, just far enough to be slightly shielded from the commotion. Of course, that's not to say that it will be perfect silence, but the noisier bars are a block or two away from where you'll sleep.

Iceland is not a cheap vacation, so if you're looking to stretch your dollars and not sacrifice too much on your accommodations, 4th Floor is a good option. If you're like us and will spend most of your time in tents camping around the ring road, you'll quickly realize a soft bed and a hot shower will always be a welcomed luxury.

First off, the reception was rude and the room we booked (private bath) was filled. No apologies were given and they claimed the bill would be adjusted at check-out. Second, we were put in an uncomfortable shared-bath studio that included a bad smell. Thirdly, at check-out they wouldn't fix the bill because they said the owners were "on vacation" and we would have to wait until they got back. We tried from home, but never did get our bill fixed. The hotel is not Icelandic, but owned by Filipinos.

The "hotel" is a pension in the 4th floor of a building (guess why that name), rooms have no WC and you get a tiger pattern bed cover to look at as soon as you get in the room. Smell was not pleasant and shared WCs (2) where individual small ones.
Breakfast is OK.

Reykjavik is not a cheap place, but I can't consider this a very cheap place. I would not suggest it unless everything is fully booked or you have a limited budget and can't find anything cheaper.

Taking into account how expensive accommodation in Reykjiavík is, we chose this hotel because of its price. We got a shabby studio, not really a hotel room, across the street from the hotel.
Basic staff: bed, shower, a small kitchen. We thought about switching places but didnt.
However, I must say that the staff at the reception is really friendly and helpful.
Free wifi on the cafe next door (where breakfast is served) and free computers for guests.

I’m just back from staying at this hotel and was very impressed. I arrived in the early hours of the morning (well about 1am) due to flight timings. When I checked in, I had been upgraded to a double room (I had originally booked for a single room as I was travelling on my own). As a first impression, this was good. My room was absolutely fine and I could not fault it at all. Simple and modern and very clean. The room was cleaned every day.

The hotel is on the 4th floor (hence the name) although the reception area and area where breakfast is served is on the ground floor. The bathroom/shower facilities are shared, although I didn’t find this a problem and never had to wait until someone else was finished using the shower/bathroom. The location of the hotel is superb as it is right in the middle of down Reykjavik. Staff were very helpful too and can arrange car hire/trips for you at reception.

All in all, a good experience and I would definitely return to this hotel. Good breakfast, great location, very helpful and nice staff and hotel is very clean.

This is a good place to stay if you want to sleep in a clean room and be in a central location for a fairly inexpensive price. We paid a bit extra to have our own bathroom and it was very worthwhile! The room was small, but had been recently updated and was quiet apart from some street noise. The staff were pleasant and let us check in a bit early, which is always appreciated. Walking distance to the downtown shopping core was about 5-10 minutes.

If renting a car, parking will be an issue, as their lot only accommodates two or three cars. Since it is a downtown location, we ended up having to pay for parking in a paid lot a block away, but it wasn't particularly expensive to do this. (If you consider that it costs $25 a day to park at some Canadian hotels-ahem, Marriott--the $5 a day was not too bad).

One thing that was awesome about this place was the free breakfast, which is a nice buffet. It is a good deal, because most stores and restaurants Reykjavik don't open until ten or eleven, so if you wake up early there is nowhere to eat for breakfast.

Overall, a good place to stay if you are interested in staying in private accommodations that are good value.

The staff were the friendliest that i met while in iceland. It was a good budget option, and everything was close by. I guess the only thing that isnt so great is there arent many bathrooms. But at least you have your own sink.
