“Not your average Hilton!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 January 2012

When we booked our trip to Iceland, we hoped to find a contemporary boutique hotel to make our trip special. There wasn't a great deal of choice beyond the B&B level, so we opted for the highest graded chain hotel, the Hilton Nordica. I'm not usually in a rush to book a Hilton, often finding it to be one of the least personal of the big brands. But this experience changed my mind. The new, contemporary, well designed, perfectly planned hotel was exactly what we wanted. Lots of amenities, great service, friendly staff, Icelandic design touches etc all made our stay extra enjoyable. The bar, restaurant, spa and gym were all fantastic - deserving of a five star rating really. There's not a 'luxe' feel to this place but if you want a reliable, contemporary, clean, warm, almost indulgent place to act as a base for the city and the island, I'd recommend booking here. Ask for a mountain facing room and spend a little more to get an Executive room if you can.

We stayed for the last night of our 6 night Icelandic break and this was the best hotel overall. Good location just 15 minutes walk from the centre. Our room was on the 6th floor overlooking the water with lots of space and very clean. We were going to eat out in Reykjavik but on looking at the hotel menu and prices decided to give it a go. No complaints with the meal and they are fine with you buying wine in the bar at happy hour prices and bring it through to the restaurant. The breakfast spread was one of the best i have ever seen and extremely well prepared. If visiting Reykjavik again we would deffinately stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the water and as high up as possible for a great view

The rooms were clean and we upgraded for the mountain view. The breakfast was great with the shot of cod liver oil. It is about a 15 minute walk to downtown and 15 minute walk to Kringland mall.

Have stayed at this property many times in the past 14 years ( was hotel Esja back then)... It is now a Hilton... It has since received a modern Scandinavian renovation... Service is excellent... Some things do not change... It is in a great location... Perhaps the best views available at any hotel in Reykjavik... The views of the bay and the surrounding mountains are absolutely amazing... Across the street and to the right a bit is the Laugardalslaug Swimming Pool... This is the largest of the geothermal heated outdoor pools in the city... In fact on my first stay at this property during the winter of 1998, I actually thought on my first night looking out from my room that there was a field on fire... Come to find out the next morning it was just the steam and lights from the pool..! So, if you are looking for a place with great views and excellent service... This would be the place to stay..!

Very nice design and decoration, great breakfast, good food. bedrooms and bathrooms are large and convenient, and very quiet, lots of space to put your stuff. Mattress was a bit too soft for me .We had free pay-per-view in our room but some colleagues did not (?), and for some of them TV was out of order. The room was done every day but the maid forgot to replace some towels or to throw away the trash. amenities were okay but not outstanding. location is a few minutes by taxi or a 20 minutes walk from downtown main shopping street and attractions. there is a shop and a tourist office in the lobby to arrange outdoor activities and sightseeing tours. definetly try the Blue Lagoon while there (on your way from/to the airport, about 45 mn drive), it is an amazing and relaxing experience.

Room Tip: 514 was good: quiet, all equipement functionning

The hotel was very comfortable and the staff were extremely gracious, with excellent English skills. We had a large group using 4 rooms, and all of us had great experiences. The maids were helpful and shared their recommendations of places to go -- and they were spot on! The room was equipped with everything you might need. I didn't even need to have brought my own squishy down pillow because theirs were very comfy! The free shuttle to the center of town (10 minutes by shuttle) was useful but runs only a few times per day. There are local bus lines that run by the hotel. Up the street from the hotel are a bakery/cafe which was good for breakfast, and several bistros and a pizza place. Around the corner was a 24 hour grocery that had some reasonably priced sandwiches, a salad bar and other goodies. The Tour Desk within the hotel was staffed for long hours by very knowledgeable, kind and helpful women whose advice and phone calls on our behalf helped make our trip a success, particularly since we hit a week of very challenging winter weather.

Room Tip: There is variation among the sizes of standard rooms. Ask for a larger room if you are adding rollaw...

I stayed at this hotel when it was under a different name and it is alot nicer now. We stayed in room #208 which has a nice view (when the weather permits) of the front of the hotel. It had a nice bed, deep tub, flat screen tv and was a short walk up the steps from the lobby. We went as part of a Northern Lights special and were happy with the room we got. We rented a car from the airport and had a bit of an issue finding the hotel but after we found it, it was easy to get back to.

It's about a 15 minute walk into the heart of the city from the hotel and we liked that there was free parking with plenty of spaces right in front. The Wifi was easy and free too. We had breakfast in Vox which was decent and also dinner there which was very good. We also had drinks at the bar and the prices were a bit high but they did have a decent local beer selection.

The spa was located on our floor but we never used it or the gym. Would stay here again.
