“will use another company next time”

the vehicle survived the trip and we got to see 90% of what we planned on which i suppose is good.

however...

to keep it short and sweet i will list the negatives that warrant the low rating

-vehicle had its share of problems:
loose bolts in steering column leading to an incessant dinging while driving all day
leaky power steering, moaning badly after 4 days of driving
wouldnt turnover on 4 occasions during 11 day trip, leading to openning the hood manually priming the fuel system multiple times until engine started
doors had no lithium grease for lubrication, they grinded open

-both emergency contact phone numbers on documentation were listed wrong, thats pretty shady

-they set up a time for us to return car in a prompt enough manner to catch flybus to KEF,
turns out it was a terrible time as the meeting was set while the bus was leaving, forcing us to pay 100 usd for a taxi to make it to airport in time....then they blamed us for not knowing the bus schedules in a country weve never been to in our life. they said the time they set is merely a suggestion, we should have know to change it .............. :|
....change it by calling a phone number that doesnt exist

-most importantly, we chose cozy campers for the fact that they offered a 4x4 to allow us to travel to the highlands.... we had to forgo our second dip into the highlands as the vehicle was not properly equipped. the vehicle is falsely advertised as having 30" all terrain tires to actually make the 4x4 useful. this was not the case...the vehicle was equipped with 27" all season radial road tires, rendering the 4x4 capabilities of the van practically useless.
we got the van stuck on 3 occasions without ever even daring a river crossing.

it was stuck twice in loose beach sand, and once simply making a k-turn in a gravel driveway....this was the make or break for me..... we paid double for 4x4 capability and got stuck with crap radial tires usless for anything accept pavement.

had this been advertised properly i wouldve saved the stress and 1000 usd renting a basic 2wd

Dear Nicholas,
We regret your bad review just because we didn?t want to pay for your taxi to Keflavik Airport. Like we discussed in the e-mail we didn?t do anything wrong. It was your decision to set the time up up at 2 p.m. and we where there in advance. We are always flexibe regarding pick-ups and drop-offs and we provide service after closing hours if we have to.
As every customer is informed about, if he or she needs to change pick-up or drop-off time that?s always an option and everyone can give me a call or send me an e-mail about that. I informed you on that matter as well. It is impossible for us to know before hand when your flight is scheduled.
Before we go further, I want to inform you that the previous customer who had the 4x4 camper you had was Jambi and you can read his review below.
When you returned the car I specifically asked you about how it operated and you didn?t complain about anything except for the sound in the steering-wheel.
Regarding the telephone issue , on the earlier bookings papers we had a different number. But the correct number is on your car key, also on a big sticker on the glove compartment and also on our website. So you had the correct phone number infront of you the whole time.

After this review I went and measured the tires myself on your camper and they are 29??, and as we state on our website, our cars come on 29?? or 30??.
Yes that is true that there was a loose screw but the car has been on F-roads all summer and these roads are really bumpy and that is probably the reason for this screw to losen. This screw was one of four screws that hold the horn, therefore it wasn?t a security matter.
After we inspected the car we saw a damage under the car and the steering pipe was crushed . I don?t know if this is something that happened in your rental or previously. But if some steering problem would have occured after only 4 days you would have to have another car as you would not have been able to finish your trip, so I assume this steering problem occured in the end of your trip when the steering fluid was down to the minimum. It is really strange that you didn?t contact us if this problem only occured after 4 days. We would have brought you a nother camper. We want to provide a personal service and be there for you if you are in a need for help or you have a problem.
We want to provide a good service but it has to be fair and because you set up the time and it was written on the comfirmation-mail we decided to refuse for paying the taxi . We regret that you have such a negative attitude towards us but we simply did our best. Best regards, Birkir

We spent 7 days in one of the 4WD campers and loved every second of it. The rental was delivered to the bus terminal where we got a very in-depth instructions about the camper. It was equipped with everything we needed: cooking gear, running water, cleaning tools, comfy couch that turned into a bed at night, LTE/WIFI hub, two power plugs, heating and a powerful turbo diesel engine.
We took off and within one day were crossing the highlands. The camper never failed. Every night we would pull into a camping area and watch the tents come up around us while we cuddled into the camper's bed. By the morning, after the winds and rains would come thrashing through the camp site, there were always some people sleeping in their cars while we woke up dry after a good night sleep and made coffee in the camper itself! Life does not get much better than this on the road.
After 7 days and 1780km we had a hard time giving the camper back. We drove most of the time away from the ring road and quiet often on F roads. We always felt that the camper could also ride on the moon if needed and while the vehicle offered all the ruggedness of a Hamvi, it was as cozy as a bedroom.
The pick up was also fantastic - the camper was picked up from our hotel such that we did not need to drive it anywhere!
Seriously, this is the best way to see Iceland.

The car was exactly how it was advised at the website. You get what you see. Perfect designed interior. You have enough space for you and your baggage so that you don't have to rearrange your stuff, if you like to build up the bed or starting to cook.
It was really cozy to sleep in this car. It doesn't felt like we are on a camping trip.
In the mid of our trip we got some problems with the car. But Birkir and his team doing his best to help us immediatly. We are sure that other rental companies like Europcar doesn't have better service.
That was our first trip to Iceland. And we think we picked up the best car rental company in Iceland with a warm and friendly service.
But next time we will take the all-wheel car to drive the f-streets.

“Great all-in-one solution for small parties traveling Iceland”

We hired the 2wd Hyundai for five days, and had an excellent time. The car was roomier than expected for two people. I am 2 meters tall, and still there was plenty of room when packing wisely. Birkir gave a thorough introduction in Keflavik to the van, which was clean and ready to go at pick up. We had ordered the extra table and chairs and a gas BBQ, which is highly recomendable when camping. Our arrangements with Birkir were very flexible, and we had arranged both pick up at the airport and drop off at our hotel in Reykjavik, which all worked well.
The van had a great bed, heating system (very important even in July!), and we liked the fridge, pots and pans etc. for cooking and extensive power outlets for USB and normal 12v outlets.
It turned out to be a great way to see Iceland in a van like this, as we were totally independent of hotels or restaurants, with everything we needed inside the van. It rained for 3 out of the five days, but that didn't really matter, as long as we could sleep and eat inside the van when needed.
The only small obstacle was getting the car dark for the night (we had 24 hour sunlight), as the curtains were hard to fit to all the windows. This didn't become a large problem though.

“Great way to see Iceland!”
Reviewed 21 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We had a brilliant time driving one of the Cozy Campers around Iceland - everything worked perfectly, and the thoughtful design/layout of the van was appreciated. Our communications and preparations were handled well by the staff, and we were thrilled to be seeing Iceland on our own schedule, cooking our own meals, and having flexibility with our trip. We couldn't have been happier with our rental - what a great way to see this magnificent country! We would highly recommend Cozy Campers to anyone wanting to comfortably camp around Iceland.
