We stayed at Hotel Saga on our trip to Iceland recently and on our last night thought we would treat ourselves to dinner at Grillid as we had read so many good reviews of it. What a mistake! The choice of menu was so limited (2 main courses, 2 desserts or the chef's 'surprise' menu) that we had no choice but to have the lamb (can't eat seafood). What we got was very small pieces of lamb still red with blood and the chef arriving at our table to tell us how it was slaughtered and then hung for x amount of wks. Call me old fashioned but I like my food cooked and I don't want to hear how it was 'slaughtered' with it sitting on the plate in front of me. It made me feel physically sick. We left after our main course, which together with 3 drinks (total, not each) cost us the equivalent of £84!!! Hotel Saga staff were great, however, as after telling our experience to the bar staff downstairs, they arranged for free desserts, tea, coffee and alcoholic beverages from the bar to alleviate our suffering.

It saddened me that we did not meet your expectations with our restaurant Grillid. All our staff strive to make your visit to us as splendid as possible and that our guests enjoy all the best that Iceland has to offer in food and drink. Unfortunately, it was not your experience. I want to thank you for taking time to write the constructive criticism which we will use to do better.

Best regards

Superb food with superb view over Reykjavik. We had the 7 course menu with wine. The food focused on local ingredients, prepared to perfection. The wine was rather basic, but well-tuned to the food.

Will visit again next time we come to Reykjavik.

My husband turned 50 just before we arrived in Iceland, so we picked Grillid for his celebratory dinner. We both could not have been happier with our choice. The location, the wonderful service and the FOOD! We both had the seven-course tasting menu and do not have enough superlatives to describe the experience.
