Owner description: Gljufrasteinn - Laxness museum was the home and workplace of Halldor Laxness (winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1955) and his family for more than half a century. It is now opened to the public as a museum, unchanged from when Laxness lived there. In the reception building you can buy tickets, souvenirs, books, and watch a multimedia presentation dedicated to Laxness’s life and work. Visitors can take walks in the beautiful countryside as well.

“Nice place to go if you have extra time.”
Reviewed 11 June 2012

This is a nice museum. When family members went fishing and I didn't want to go, this is where I headed. If you do not like museums you will really not like this one. As is it not a very old or large country exhibits might not be what you are used to. But if you like history and like learning you find this to be very interesting. Almost everything has an English translation.

“THE Icelandic writer Laxnes”
Reviewed 2 May 2012

The former home of the only Icelander to get the Nobel Price. Excellent writer and an interesting journey trough his life. A must for any culture lover and I strongly recommend all to take a look of some of his work.

“A haven of tranquility and culture”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

Halldor Laxness (the Nobel prize for literature) built and ived in this house just outside Reykjavik all his life. It contains a lot of art and pieces that he collected over his life. You get to really understand how he came to write such moving novels.
