Description: TapasBarinn is an extremely lively restaurant where Spanish tapas tradition meets the freshest Icelandic ingredients. It is located in a cellar at Vesturgata 3 in Reykjavik's central. The menu at TapasBarinn offers over 50 different meat, fish and vegetable dishes so you can take your time and experiment various flavour combinations. A must try is the Icelandic gourmet feast which is a great way to taste the best of Icelandic produce in one meal. The restaurant has been open since the year 2000 and has become a local favourite. It has the only kitchen in Reykjavík that is open 23:30 on weekdays and 01:00 on weekends. The breezy atmosphere and the Spanish effects in the decorations make TapasBarinn ideal for an enjoyable evening, a true ray of sunshine in downtown Reykjavík.

The food here was excellent. Like most of Iceland, horribly expensive for what you get, but the tapas was excellent and there were so many choices it was mind-boggling. Got in without a reservation, which was nice.

This was one of my first stops on my inaugural trip to Iceland. My colleague and I were looking for a relaxing and quality meal after a long day of travel and Tapas Barinn delivered. We ordered the Icelandic feast which featured among other things, puffin, horse, and whale. Neither of us had experienced these dishes before and we really enjoyed them. When in Iceland, eat Icelandic food!

The dining room itself is also great. It is cozy and intimate. We were seated next to a couple of Americans who we made fast friends with. Great time all around.

I've read many of the reviews raving about the tapas at Tapas Barrin and just don' t get it. The tapas in my opinion only resemble Spanish tapas in that they are small portions. The quality of all four different tapas we tried were simply bland. We did a shrimp, chicken, meatball and potatoes bravo. Nothing exotic like whale, puffin or horse. We also tried a pitcher of their house sangria. It was preprepared and diluted with sprite. We complained that it seemed to be missing wine and the bartender then poured some house wine into the pitcher. Please! Tab for this meal $92. Avoid this place.

This place serves very traditional spanish tapas, once inside the warm and cozy atmosphere you could be in Spain. But they also serve some tapas style meals with an Icelandic twist.
We had some local fish and lamb along with puffin and minke whale, all delicious. The service was also exceptional, they took time to explain in detail each dish they served.

Try the gourmet menu. A great way to sample some of the more different things eaten by Icelandars. Portions were generous and came out quickly. Service was friendly and efficient.
