This hotel is not far from the ferry or the center of all restaurants and shops. The room was very spacious and clean. The owners were helpful and friendly. They showed us how to get to the best location to observe puffins. Very nice owners, always smiling. The hotel has 2 hot tubs in the basement that are clean. Beautiful pictures of Iceland on the walls. Breakfast was nice, with delicious fresh peaches.

I spent two nights at this hotel last week with a friend and we had a great time. Since the room was a bit small for us, the charming owner did not hesitate to give us another room so we could both have more privacy during our stay. The location is perfect (meaning, near the ferry and in town) and the new owner is quite nice. He always lived on the Island and we can feel that he is proud of his land. There is also a restaurant which serves very good fish.

This hotel was recently bought and they seem to be trying to improve it. I haven't been there prior so, I can't really say what the improvements have been just the the owner seemed interested in letting us know. The room was very basic - barely any soap. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner. It was clean. There were no room darkening shades which definitely factors in to a good nights sleep. Bring your eye mask when traveling to Iceland in the Summer.
There is a restaurant (Einis Kaldi) attached to the hotel which is very good. We ate dinner there one night and the food and service were excellent. We also had breakfast in that restaurant and it was adequate. All-in-all, it worked but don't expect luxury. Do eat at the restaurant.

We needed a place to stay in Vestmannaeyjar and ended up in this nice hotel, also called Thorshammar Hotel (Hótel Þórshamar). Had reservations, needed to move the date, but no problem. The room was ok, had ordered a twin bed, but got a room with two beds.
But the loaction is great, and the owner is greater. He made all the phone calls he needed to answer any question we had. The restaurant on the ground floor (Einsi Kaldi) made the dinner easy to reach. The pools in the basement wasn't quite warm enough, but at least we got a dip and a beer when we arrived.

The pictures shown on their website definitely made good use of wide angle photography! In reality the room was tiny, with a humid and therefore smelly carpet... The hotel is very well located, in the middle of town, close to the vulcany and the harbor, a great plus. We didn't use the spa, so cannot comment on that. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a bar, with tabel outside when the weather is nice, so do expect some noise in the middle on the night.

This was my favorite hotel of my Iceland trip. Just like the other people said - the new Owner/Manager - Magnus I think - made the stay. He told us about the puffin hut, where we spent a few hours. We were even asked how we slept, which was nice since we expressed concern about the room facing the street.
There are only 3 "suites", but they're waaay better than the other rooms and don't cost that much more. We stayed in one, and I think it was the only room in Iceland that was a decent value. The room had a nautical theme to it, a big jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, and even fresh roses, which I didn't expect on a rather remote island in the far north. It was on the street, and we stayed on probably the warmest night of the year so had to open the window, but it's such a sleepy town that there wasn't any traffic other than the guests parking.
The breakfast was acceptable, but could be improved.
There is a hot tub and rec center in the lowest room, but we didn't use it because of the one in our bathroom.
Make sure to reserve a spot for the car on the ferry. The island is bigger than I thought, and without a car our exploring options would have been rather limited.

Room Tip: Get a suite for just a bit more money

Although, this is isn't the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in, it seemed to be the best available on the island. I was a little upset that they charged me for a breakfast that I never had. I noticed the difference in price when I got home and was going through my credit card bills. Unfortunately, I never bothered to dispute the charges as it seemed like more of a hassle than it was worth, but just make sure you check your bill before you leave.
