“Nice little hotel near Vik”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

We stayed here for one night in October 2013. The guesthouse is on a farm about 16 kilometres out of Vik. To get to the guesthouse you need to drive for about 2 km on a gravel road off the main ring road. The rooms were quite spacious and nice. Friendly staff. Got to breakfast late and there wasn't much left, except for a bit of toast. A nice stay.

Arrived here 10pm at night and the owner was still awake and extremely friendly. She didn’t mind that we came that late, she was actually worried for us. We were soaked after walking behind Seljalandsfoss and she told us we could use the shoe dryer at her place. We even told her that we were going to check out at 7am the next day and she said we would have to pay for the place now and she would give us breakfast now even though it started at 8am the next day. She gave us prepared sandwiches and fruits. Very accommodating of her and her husband. Her husband gave us fresh coffee. This place is really nice. They have wooden floors, dressers, and tables. The windows block out the loud winds very effectively. I couldn’t hear anything while sleeping at night. There are also tons of plugs in the room. Definitely have no issues in charging ALL of your devices. The bathroom is very clean. I did not see any mildew anywhere in the shower stall. Only thing you have to be aware of is that there’s no door for the shower stall. It’s just a curtain that separates the shower stall from the sink and toilet. Also, there is tons of kitchen counter space. Other than that, this place is awesome. No password for the internet and they have at least 2 routers that covers the length of the entire building. I would definitely recommend this place and stay here again!

Ousruun, the proprietor of Guesthouse Steig, runs a tight ship. The place is spotlessly clean (you have to remove your shoes when you enter). Rooms are roomier than the typical Iceland lodging. Wifi works well.

Breakfast is basic and not up to the standards of several other lodging places we stayed at over our visits to Iceland. But that is the only flaw to an otherwise great experience. The farmhouse is well off the road and so is quite peaceful. The farm is a working sheep enterprise, too.

Nice location with farm animals.

The only place we stayed that had sun-blocking shades!

Excellent Icelandic breakfast buffet. Service at breakfast was excellent even though we hit a peak breakfast period. Spacious rooms.

Would definitely stay here again!

This is a real Icelandic farm with rooms for guests. Room is very big, with a large TV and a place for luggages. The bathroom is big too. It seems to be in a luxury hotel. but pay attention they don't have natural water so they pay water , when you don't use it, switch off. The kitchen is well ecquiped and the living room is so quite. We spent 2 days here because of a snow storm, we relaxed. Dogs are lovely and friendly, I miss them!

I'd not expected anything exceptional when the travel agency flagged this guesthouse, 'farm', for our first night on our Icelandic adventure. In fact, it was a welcome surprise. As we entered, after tackling the 1km gravel track that leads to the farm, we were greeted by our charming hosts and their dogs (we like dogs, and these small chaps brought a smile to our faces after an hour driving in a downpour). The building has a smell you associate to 'new', though it has been in operation since 2008. The rooms are clean and again smell as if they had been built yesterday. Size and comfort were exactly what we required, so we were generally delighted with the accommodation.

Now we did not have dinner (went to Vik instead), but did grab breakfast in the morning; nothing exceptional there... Also my partner did mention running out of hot water when she showered in the evening (as did a few other guests the next morning), which was in the end the only negative experience from our stopover.

Generally I'd recommend to anyone looking for accommodation in the area, especially after having tried a few other places along the way round the island.

This guesthouse is not in Vik---it's about 15 K East of it. Be sure you have good directions. It's in the middle of nowhere at the end of dirt road.
We had a very large nice, bright room with a sink. There is a large kitchen available for cooking & a cozy living room for guests to use. Very clean.
Breakfast is just OK...
