“Nicest place we stayed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2012

Our family spent a night here as part of a 10 day swing around the south coast and it was the nicest place we stayed. Stylistically, it feels like a European modern boutique hotel. The rooms were as spacious and comfy as any we had experienced on the island and the showers powerful. The owners have put in a lot of thought and detail to make this a comfortable, modern, inviting space. The meals (dinner and breakfast) deserve a special note - they were delicious and even our 8 and 11yo (who have been known to be picky at times) hoovered up all the food. We got a great tip on an abandoned thermal swimming pool, where we hiked for swim in solitude the next day. In retrospect we should have spent a couple of days at the Volcano Hotel. We didn't have the time to book an adventure with Johann - but we're convinced it would be a fabulous experience.

my boyfriend and i stayed at Hotel Volcano earlier this year. We'd been driving from the capital for HOURS thinking we'd find numerous places along the way. Many places weren't open and we started to think we'd have to sleep in the car until we saw a sign for this place! very affordable, extremely comfy and the staff we're so welcoming and knowledgable. the next morning the views were astounding and we were perfectly positioned to continue our journey to the glacier lagoon and Vic. Shame we only got to stay there the one night!
Breakfast was good, toast, cereal, pancakes, juice, teas, coffee etc. it was continually replenished and they staff treated you like old friends. really enjoyed my stay!

The Volcano Hotel about 10 minutes west of Vik was a real treat. The former schoolhouse was converted into a very trendy and modern small hotel. The rooms were well designed and large...with bathrooms to match. The breakfast was very good...with fresh waffles appearing regularly. A very short drive to cliffs with swarms of puffins made this lovely hotel a great place to stay.

Last week we stayed 2 nights (with a family of five) in the Volcano hotel in Vik, it was really a warm home-feeling. Beautiful rooms, a very cozy breakfast-meeting room, with an inviting couch. You feel at ease all the time. The owners, Johann and Margret are very hospitable and sympathetic
After staying in Kirkjubaejarklaustur we returned to go with Johann on a super jeep tour to the Eyjafjallajokull glacier. It was a spectacular day, and I really advise everybody to book such a tour!
After our return they were so kind to let us change clothes (we were wet to the skin), even though we did not stay for the night, because we still had to drive to Reykjavik that evening.
We would like to thank you both and all the staff of your very special hotel. We will be back some day!!
með cordial kveðjur frá Hollandi, og bless! Marianne, Annelijn, Elly, Larissa and Amber.

Great view, extremely comfortable, and a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere. There's a really good sitting area outside, the breakfast was extremely tasty, and having tea and coffee constantly available is a real plus. Best of all was the friendly reception and the excellent tourist advice provided. Very very strongly recommended!

I stayed at Volcona hotel with my parents for one night and one full day of excursion in August 2012.

The guesthouse is fairly new, opened in July 2011, and everything is completely new. The rooms are very large, well appointed with taste, and beds are very comfy. It is extremely nice after a long day visiting the surroundings. The bathroom is modern, and spacious.

Breakfast was of very high quality, and there was plenty to choose from. Make sure you call ahead of your arrival, and order dinner, as there are only limited options in the Vik area, and the dinner menu although limited is excellent and fairly priced.

Johann and Margret, the owners, are very friendly and made sure we had a good stay.
I had excellent email conversation ahead of our stay with Johan to book one of his super-jeep tour. I can not recommend it enough, as it allows access to part of Iceland you will not otherwise see, even in a 4x4. Johann has grown up in the area, and is a mine of information regarding the eruptions. He also knows the good spots for photographies.

The stay and that day was one of the highlights of our stay in Iceland, and I would rate 6 stars if I could. Can not wait to go back!

Room Tip: Call ahead to arrange for dinner and super jeep tour

We used this hotel, really more of a B&B, as a base for exploring one of Iceland's most beautiful areas. The owners are friendly, and helpful. Johan gives great tours and advise for exploring the area. He'll also drop off hikers at one location and pick them up at another. It is right across the road from Dyrholaey and at the end of each day we'd drive over and enjoy the sunset from the cliffs or walk along the black beachs -so beautiful. The rooms have great beds, pillows and duvets. Very scandanavian chic. The breakfast was lavish and diner can be ordered and was reasonable and tasty. There is coffee and tea available all day long which is very nice. Ask for a room away from the eating area. We stayed 3 nights

Room Tip: away from eating area. Also it will be quieter away from parking lot/
