Where to start.
The hotel is arranged in cabins which is nice - doesn't ruin surrounding area and makes for easy access. The surrounding area is south of the volcano Katla (which made for a worrying stay in some respects!) and is stunning. There is nothing around (apart from the town of Vik, a five minute drive away) so the area is pitch black, making it a perfect spot to see the Northern Lights and the stars if it is clear. Unfortunately I was unable to see either.
The rooms are nice, quite spacious and clean and the beds are comfortable. The rooms have wonderful views over the lake, mountains and sea.
The food for dinner and breakfast was wonderful and allowed people to try traditional Icelandic breakfast foods (fish, a kind of bread and several patés).
There is the shoe rule - do not walk in shoes in the hotel rooms - which is fair enough and easy to obey.
There is a pool and hot tub which I personally did not stay in, but is apparently lovely also.
I really enjoyed my stay here and have no complaints. Really lovely hotel.
