A four poster with a stool to climb in. It felt very royal.
Dining was excellent and couldn't fault the service.

The following week I stayed in a Holiday Inn in London that cost more for a night in a dull boring room that cost more with no breakfast or evening meal than Lewtrenchards dinner bed and breakfast. Guess where I'd rather stay!

From the spectacular setting, the professional and courteous staff, the fine dining and the wonderful rooms it is impossible to fault Lewtrenchard Manor. If you are looking for peace and tranquillity, spectacular countryside and a wonderful dining experience this hotel provides it in abundance. The building is lovely and maintained to a very high standard. All the staff we met were lovely and very helpful. Our room was perfect, spotlessly clean and complete with a very comfortable four poster bed. The real triumph was dinner. The chef is a real talent. Dinner at £50 a head, including coffee and petits fours is very good value. I can't wait to visit again.

Lewtrenchard Manor is simply wonderful. Superb service from the wonderful staff, sumptuous dinners and afternoon tea, magnificent room, beautiful grounds, great country walks right outside the front door, convenient to all the attractions in Cornwall and Devon - the superlatives go on and on. Our tour of the English countryside took us to seven locations, and Lewtrenchard was the best lodging, hands down. We would return in a heartbeat, and stay twice as long. Our enthusiastic thanks to Duncan, Jo, and all the wonderful staff who made our time there special.

Room Tip: We loved the St. Gertrude's suite.

Again, we've stayed at The Lewtrenchard Manor. The minute we arrive, we know whey we're back again! It feels so well-known. It's amazing! Jacobean in all it's facets. You can so much imagine how life was in those days. If it wasn't a hotel, they could open the building and the gardens to the public. It feels if you're back in time, with all the luxeries of present tense. We really love it and for sure we'll come back again!

The Murray family and their staff runs it all so perfect. They are very perfectionists and you'll find this back in everything. You feel spoilt constantly! So great to experience. Also compliments to Matthew the chef! Every meal was really delicious.

Because the way they run this place (very personal) you feel yourself much more a gast in the house than a gast in a hotel.

The fact that our dog Mickey is very welcome is great. We think in not many hotels of this very high standard dogs are so welcome as they are at Lewtrenchard. We've stayed here many times before and Mickey is always very welcome. Mickey loves it. She is allowed to go everywhere. (Except in the diningroom of course.) We are very thankfull that Mickey can join us at The Lewtrenchard Manor. We take her always with us to England. Otherwise we could'nt come to this marvelous place!!

Thank you very much for that!! Sue, James, Duncan, Jo and the staff.

This is a Family run hotel operating with incredibly high standards. I have read a recent review and whilst I do not have a dog, these people to me, are just lovely. Nothing is too much trouble. They are courteous, helpful and deserve certainly my thanks.
The location is terrific. A walk in the gardens lightens any darkness.
As for the food, it is out of this world. Through work I frequently eat out and the restaurant in this hotel, is up there with the very best.
Whilst we all read Trip Adviser.....I rarely review. In this instance, however, I felt it right to leave these thoughts: Lewtrenchard is 10 out of 10 for vaue, service, food and ambience.

Lewtrenchard is a mainly Jacobean manor house that was bought back by owners James and Sue Murray when the Von Essen Hotel group went into receivership in about 2012. It is a beautiful building in a tranquil setting with, I think, 14 bedrooms.
We spent a Sunday night there. I only remembered to email that morning that my wife has some difficulty with stairs. We were met by Sue Murray and courteously given an upgraded room, without extra charge, that was very easy for us to manage. James Murray was very welcoming when we went for pre-dinner drinks with a friend.
The young staff were friendly, courteous and well trained. The dinner, which included several tasters, was very good and well presented. We chose a fine Priorat from the interesting wine list.
I travel considerably and strongly recommend this Lewtrenchard Manor.

Room Tip: We did not see other rooms but I am sure the owners would advise, as they did for us.

From the minute we arrived at the impressive manor house with our dog we could not of asked for more. We were greated straight away, quickly checked in and shown to the St Clements suite, a wonderful suite accross the courtyard. We were instantly made a feel welcome, and for anyone worried by the earlier comment Bob (our dog) was also welcomed and the hotel us definitly dog friendly.

We had booked 6 nights dinner, bed and breakfast and what a treat, the food and service was of the highest quality. Every meal was amazing, we were asked if there was anything we wanted as we were there for 6 nights, however, we were more than happy with the delights offered each night by the chef.

During our stay every member if the Lewtrenchard team provided exceptional service, the service beat any 5 star hotel we have stayed in.

The location is fabulous, with so many beautiful places on the door step.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel. We will definitly go back.

Thanks to all at Lewtrenchard for such a wonderful break.
