“Average food served by miserable staff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

With my wife yesterday we visited this very popular canal side pub and both had ham eggs and chips. Our order was taken at the bar by an efficient but not friendly barman and the food was served by a young man and girl neither of whom smiled, spoke or asked if we had enjoyed our meal. The ham was two thin slices of very ordinary tasteless quality, with two hard fried eggs on top served with chips. A jacket potato was overcooked. Very average pub quality food which does not justify a return visit

“Don't get it!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014

Having been here for meals several times now whilst staying on the adjacent campsite, I still don't understand why the food here gets such good ratings! The food is pub food, nothing more, nothing less and certainly not of any merit. I keep waiting for an excellent meal but it never turns up.
Granted the Sunday lunch is large, cooked well, reasonably priced and on the whole good but you'll get much better down the road in Frampton and that will be all home prepared and cooked. The rest of the menu is what you would expect and is served in a thousands of pubs across the country.
I will give the pub a thumbs up for its great range of ales and ciders and definitely recommend a visit just for these.
The staff are pleasant enough but I dislike the way the locals take up two thirds of the space at the quite small bar counter with dogs spread about around the floor area meaning that the rest of the clientele cannot get anywhere near the bar. The locals are not very friendly either even though they'll have been there all day!
You do need to book for Friday and Saturday evenings.

“Fabulous food once again!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014 via mobile

Fabulous food, amazing beer, cheery atmosphere, friendly bar staff and cheerful serving staff! The breakfasts are delicious! All in all another lovely 2 night break in a fantastic part of the world, set by a sleepy canal and just a little way from Slimbridge wwt. A good place to visit!

“Always good, can be excellent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014

Have been there 5-6 times , nice atmosphere, good facilities and a great menu. On Monday this week it was brilliant, good food and a very attentive waitress. Tuesday , I think we had an apprentice waiter which rather took the edge off things.

“Catered for 40+ of us fantastically!”

Great food, and piping hot (which in my experience is rare with parties of this size in smaller establishments). Let us have a room to ourselves which was great. Thanks to all!
