“One of the most prestigious wineries in southern France.”

We had a reservation for a 10:00 tour of this fine winery, and were greeted promptly by a beautiful young woman who spoke perfect English---after all, she is a native of Canada who found her way here after studying wines in Paris for a couple of years. She gave us a thorough tour of the wine-making facility and grounds of this 247-acre site that has been kept together for several hundred years. The family that now owns the winery has held it for more than 100 years, and has a great deal of obvious pride in their products. The very informative and interesting tour was followed by a wine tasting of several varieties of the fine wines produced here. No wines were offered for purchase, but the Perrin family has an outlet in nearby Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and we recommend a visit to that lovely village as well. Wish we could have brought back a case or two!

Make every effort to arrange for a visit to this most revered winery! Our elegant and articulate guide, Sarah, who is totally bilingual, knowledgeably gave us the Beaucastel history and walked us through an excellent tasting. There will be NO expectation that you buy any of their wines, but we did buy one for our traveling group of eight. Our bottle was sufficiently aged to open that evening to accompany our barbequed steak dinner back at our "chateau-away-from-home." The wine needed to open for 30 minutes but it was, of course, delicious. This winery is a must see if you can arrange for a visit.

This is a must visit for all those wine enthusiasts out there. It is much bigger than I expected. It's a place steeped in history and tradition. Well worth booking a tour and having the story told by of the current generation!

Visiting Chateau de Beaucastel makes it obvious why they produce the best wine in the region. The Perrin family is dedicated to quality wines and you see it in the tour and tasting at their top vineyard. The best grapes, low yields, impeccable facilities and an interesting blend of tradition and technological innovation result in the marvellous wines produced here. Richard was a fascinating host , a lawyer who is an expert on wine law ....the regs and rules but who also has a passion for wine.

you need reservations, so go to their web site early and get them--I enjoy wine tasting but it doesn't consume me--mostly I can take it or leave it--but this was different--it was an excellent tour, into the vineyards, down into the one million bottle cellars, etc.. but the highlight was when we began the tasting, only four of us were escorted into a beautiful room and Richard, a relatively new yet very impressive employee began to serve 4 different wines, each a bit different and a bit older, even one we'd pay about $150 a bottle for in the US-- and there was no charge-- what a surprise, an absolutely terrific tour of one of the worlds great wines at no charge--we bought several bottles of very good wine while at a more affordable price, which they'll sell to you but they sure don't push them-- be sure to put this on your list, then see my review of L'Oustalet, the families restaurant--wow!!
