“Simply lovely”
Reviewed 18 July 2012 for a stay in June 2012

Other reviews here say it all - beautiful, tasteful, peaceful house with a great pool, facilities and amenities. Lovely welcome, easy to get around Gozo by car, nothing too far. The beach at Ramla Bay was fantastic with the kids - if we could drag them away from the pool. Help and advice from David and Pawla on hand if you need it, but unobstrusive if you don't.

“Calming retreat in a lovely part of Gozo”

A labour of love, I suspect, for the owner, this villa has been renovated to a high modern standard. Three good sized double bedrooms, an upstairs bathroom and downstairs shower, a good sized kitchen and lounge. Lots of nice internal stone work on display. Lovely courtyard that gets full sun for most of the day, with shaded gallery round the side. A good sized pool area, too.
Situated in a quiet part of Gozo - Gharb is right at the end of the island -- it's about 25 minutes from the ferry by car. And you need a car! Though there is a bus service on Gozo, you need a car to get around on your own terms. Victoria, Gozo's capital, is a 15 minute drive.
Gharb has a handful of restaurants, serving a variety of rustic or Mediterranean cuisine. Jeffrey's is ok for hearty rustic fare, but the quality is variable; the Rangers Bar does fine pizzas; Tatitas in San Lawrenz, the next town along, is up-market but good. Best restaurant we found was the Maji, in Victoria; very high quality Med food, but quite pricey. More of a treat out than anything. Ta' Rikardu, in the Citadel in Victoria, is quite buzzy. The Art Deco Cafe Jubilee on Independence Square in Victoria does a good breakfast.
There's local supermarkets that are good for most basics, tho a proper shop to one of the bigger supermarkets in Victoria is probably advised.
Gozo is a lot nicer than Malta, it's a little more soulful.
Good walks, friendly, laid-back locals. And Maltese wine. Very good. Who'd have thought.

“an absolute palace”
Reviewed 25 June 2011 for a stay in April 2011

I would highly recommend this villa to any one looking for a really special holiday, wether it be a couple seeking a romantic secluded break, a family or even people looking for a beautiful base in which they can return after a days adventure exploring the beautiful but tranquil island of Gozo. Really handy for the Azure window and if you are thinking about a base for a dive holiday.Plenty of local amenities and restaurants.
The Villa itself is a real palace, clean and well decorated and very private.

Management Response
25 Aug 2016
All those years ago when we were looking at a few properties in different parts of Gozo, with a view to buying, we singled out Gharb (particularly the outskirts of the village) as outstanding. We were fortunate to find this old farmhouse. It is semi-detached and at the end of a terrace and with wonderful views, not overlooked and private. As you observe, it is an ideal base for diving/snorkelling at the spectacular Azure Window and the Inland Sea which are only a short distance away, and for exploring the island. Good shops, a well equipped supermarket, and a variety of good restaurants are within easy walking distance from the house. None of the must see sights of Gozo are too far away.

“Great place to unwind with a glass or 2 of wine!”
Reviewed 30 May 2011 for a stay in May 2011

Just returned from a 7 night stay with 3 kids, 6 and under, one father in law, brother in law and us. We had a fantastic time! The farm house has everything you need, is clean, kitchen well stocked, plenty of places to sit and relax whether its by the pool or in the courtyard. We didn't feel like we were living on top of each other as there is plenty of room for my FIL and BIL to escape the kids and read in peace.

The pool was maintained by a friendly local twice a week to keep it clean and check the levels. We spent a few days just by the pool and a big plus for us was the children had plenty of room to let off steam but was safe from the pool by locking the gate to it.

There was endless hot water, I was the last to shower after everyone else one evening and it didn't drop in temprature at all.

The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with aircon units (we didn't need these as it was May and the stone keeps them cool). Again plenty of storage to hang clothes and drawers too.

Gharb is nice but a little lacking on places to go and eat or somewhere just to have coffee! Hence the 4 for location. Rangers, (about 10 min walk) was great for kids and food was always excellent. Pizzas, salads, pasta dishes, the tandoori chicken was very good. It looked busy for the football one night as there is a big TV on the wall. There is two other restaurants but we didn't feel they would cater for a 2 year olds tastes so didn't try them. We enjoyed a couple of glasses of local wine in the courtyard at night back at the house, the lights and plants around us made a very relaxing end to the day.

There are a few small super markets to cater - try lighthouse in St Lawerenze as it is bigger. About a 20 min walk.

I would definitly suggest hiring a car, the buses are not like in Malta and last bus comes back to Gharb about 5.30pm, taxi's are a little pricey. We waited an hour for a bus to Victoria and it did not turn up, a kind english lady gave us a lift in and she said not to rely on the buses running on time during the day. We hired a car to give us more freedom to roam the island. Dwerjia is well worth a visit for an ice cream and a visit to the Boat House in Xlendi is a must too!

My only niggle was the little farm across the road, the kids loved the sheep and goats etc but the main bedroom over looks this and one night they were very noisy. There is also a cockerall that would wake us but they didn't disturb the kids or my FIL in the other bedrooms.

The owner is very friendly, I spoke to him a few times and was happy to answer any questions we had and was prompt in replying to emails and arranging with the cleaner for a cot and put up bed when my brother in law decided at the last minute to join us for a few days.

Overall we have returned happy, relaxed and missing being in there already and would certainly go back!
