“A splendid and relaxing weekend break!”
Reviewed 25 May 2011

I've been staying in the Hotel, along with a group of friends for the weekend. The rooms are fantastic and views from the balcony room of Marsalforn Bay is great. The reception and staff are very friendly and the price you pay is of real value for money's paid. Therefore, I recommend Calypso to everyone who is planing a holiday in Gozo.

This was a very well positioned hotel. The food is excellent - go half board if you can. Manuel in the restaurant was a great waiter. We had room 412 which had great views and a balcony - definitely request this is you can! Beds comfortable and room very clean and well laid out. TV old but worked fine. Worst point was that we booked here as the rooms were meant to have wifi as we run a business. The wifi did not work properly and we could not access our emails which was very very annoying. We complained and the staff seemed disinterested until we told Chris who, whilst he could not sort this, he tried get us nearer to the hub to test it then took us next door to the Smugglers pub and asked for their access code so we could at least download emails on our iPhone on their wifi - so at least he really tried. Do not stay here is you need wifi to work. The 5 Start Te Cenc (sp?) hotel is not as well positioned as it is not near the harbour but its wifi is fantastic. We hired a car via our helpful representative George Gauci and it came within an hour. It cost 30 Euros per day and was genuinely the worst hire car we had ever seen - scrapes all over it and about 10+ years old with 78,000 on the clock! We kid you not. No radio and no air conditioning but fortunately we did not need it in April. It was actually fun in a strange sort of way and encouraged us to explore the back streets and roads which are in atrocious condition. However, all other hire companies were handing out decent cars and cheaper so we suggest you pre-book a car if you are having one! You definitely need one in Gozo to get the most from your holiday and it meant we explored the whole island in a 5 night trip including a lovely day out to Comito - get the 10 a.m. or earlier boat there before it gets too busy! Have fun!

Room Tip: The wifi DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY!!

Choose a room with sea view. Def worth it. It touches the beach. The food, room, cleanliness, service, food all are excellent. If u really want a SPA and those kind of things do not stay in this hotel as it does not have one, and no indoor pool as far as i know, but if you want views that take your breath away, the sound of the sea, good food and a place where to spend time relaxing after a day running around gozo, its excellent. The balconies are quite spacious to spend some time admiring the view.

I have stayed in Calypso Hotel Gozo for two nights during Fam-Trip. I have to say, that I was impressed.
Hotel is located just on the waterfront, in the center of small Marsalforn. Not far from the nice beach, shops, restaurants and other attractions. Nice, fresh sea breeze could really make your morning great.
Staff is extremely helpful, professional and so friendly. Natural smile and personal touch. I liked that very much.
My room (Superior Twin) was spacious (or even large I would say), clean, well equipped and comfortable. Well sized bathroom with good quality toiletries. I was very surprised with the welcome pastry plate... Mmmmm.... I had a small balcony and partial bay view. It's worth to pay extra to have the Superior room with sea view (it's bigger and much nicer view than standard rooms).
Lobby is elegant and practical. Internet stations, reception, coffee bar (with fantastic pastries) and local snacks was good place to be in the evening as well. Just forget your diet...
Yeah... Diet... Food in Calypso is a destination by itself. I just loved EVERY SINGLE MEAL they served... I actually couldn't move after that, but it was too to good to refuse. I just couldn't. And breakfast choice was incredible. Actually, whatever you could think to have for breakfast. Huge choice. Definitely book your room with BB option as it is worth the price. Honestly, food was great.
On the last day I was able to see as well other room types (standard, superior and suite). Thery were all nice, but suite was obviously the best. The biggest, most elegant and I think suitable for a family. Definitely enough space for 4-5 people.
There is roof top swimming pool and restaurant (I think open only during the summer time, but I am not sure).
Anyway, next time visiting Gozo, Calypso would be first hotel to check. I have enjoyed my 2 days stay and would come back there for longer (even Marsalforn is not the most interesting location in Gozo). Hotel was really good. Special 'thank you' for staff. :)

We have stayed at Hotel Calypso three times now and each time the accommodation and service have been of the same excellent quality. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. We have only visited in the Winter months which is out of season so the resort and hotel are not as busy as you would expect in the Summer months; this does make for a very relaxing stay however in a beautiful part of the World.

We loved our week at the Calypso. The charming location was perfect for our romatic getaway, with some lovely little restaurants on the doorstep and crystal clear water to swim and snorkel in. Unpretentious and pretty, laid back and totally "chav" free, it made for a very relaxing holiday.
The food was good, though I would recommend trying the local restaurants as the menu at the hotel was not too varied or exciting.
We found the staff very friendly and accomodating. Nothing seemeed to be a problem, including our request to exchange our half board dinner for lunch which was handy as we could then dine out in the evening.
Our room was comfortable and always clean. We didn't have a sea view but our balcony overlooked a quiet back street which was actually quite pleasant.
We got a great package deal which was excellent value for money.

The apartments at Calypso Hotel are very spacious and they are located on the beach front with a wonderful view over the harbour. There are different sizes on the apartments, so the capacity differs.

The furnitures are a bit old and not really modern, but this place is perfect for divers and rock klimbers as ourselves. It's also perfect when you travel with kids, as they have a lot of space to play.
